SummaryThe Product Design Engineer role is to design, test, support and improve products through the entire product lifecycle. Including assisting Manufacturing, Sales, and Quality Assurance in tasks related to products. Product Design Engineer receives authority from and reports to the Manager-Product Technology.
Duties and responsibilitiesSpecific duties include, but are not limited to:
- Document research, design, testing and validation for new and existing products.
- Develop criteria and documents for manufacturing, testing and inspection of the products.
- Understand tools, testing devices, and data collection devices for the effort of designing, testing, and manufacturing products.
- Understand manufacturing tools, devices and devices for the effort of designing efficient products.
- Assist in the manufacturing of products as needed to improve performance or reduce the cost.
- Assist the Quality Department as needed for product acceptance or field related issues.
- Assist the Sales Department with the materials and information necessary for selling products.
- Communicate with external parties that may be providing testing, design, or analysis support to Benoit.
- Follow Benoit's best practice and industry standards while conducting all job roles and responsibilities.
Qualifications:- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field; or 4 years of related experience in lieu of a degree.
- At least 7 years of related experience
- Work is highly independent. Reviews work and provides guidance to team members. A specialist on complex technical and business matters and makes significant contributions to key projects.
- Experience or aptitude in product design, product testing, manufacturing support, inspection, quality support, technical services, or related work preferred.
- Read and understand drawings, specifications, test plans, work instructions, and product documentation.
- Perform and document research, design, testing, validation, product support, and product-improvement activity.
- Use or learn tools, testing devices, data collection devices, CAD, CAE, or related technical systems as required by the role.
- Use or learn 2D simulations to understand and improve product performance using FEA software such as Abaqus.
- Evaluate, understand, and apply product testing requirements, drawings, industry standards, specifications, inspection procedures, and test procedures.
- Effective written and oral communication skills with the ability to work with Product Technology, Manufacturing, Quality, Sales, and external support parties.
- Must have and maintain a clean driving record and pass motor vehicle report (MVR) checks when operating personal or company vehicles for business purposes.
Physical Requirements- Ability to effectively listen, read, speak and write in English for communication.
- Sufficient visual acuity to perform job duties safely and accurately.
- Ability to work, stand and move throughout an office, warehouse, production, testing, or outdoor environments as required.
- Lift, move, adjust, push, pull, and carry objects to waist height up to 30 lbs without assistance as needed.
- Lift, carry, move, push, pull, and adjust objects from waist to shoulder height up to 30 lbs without assistance as needed.
- Sit for extended periods for computer work, documentation, and design or analysis activity.
- Standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, and use of stairs as required for testing, inspection, product review, or shop support activities.
- Frequent use of computer, phone, printer, and other office equipment.
- Occasional use of handheld tools, testing devices, data collection devices, and product-review equipment.
- Fine motor skills are required to manipulate tools, components, testing devices, and computer equipment.
- Occasional exposure to noise, temperature variations, outdoor elements, and shop environment.
- Drive operating personal or company vehicles and travel for business purposes as needed.
