Position Summary:

The Procurement Specialist is responsible for processing requisitions and quotes and generating purchase orders in our system. In addition, this position will be responsible for building and maintaining productive relationships with new and existing suppliers and serving as the point of contact for coordinating contract intake, routing, documentation, and status management in partnership with business owner, Accounting and Legal. The role applies procurement policies and sound judgment to resolve purchasing, contracting, delivery, and invoicing issues and support timely business operations.

Responsibilities:
  • Source materials and services for R&D, Technical Operations, and Facilities; evaluate supplier quotations based on price, quality of materials, delivery, service, and other applicable business requirements.
  • Coordinate supplier selection, due diligence, onboarding, and activation in applicable systems while building and maintaining productive supplier relationships.
  • Process Purchase Orders ensuring appropriate legal approval and following Procure to Pay (P2P) process.
  • Assist in the oversight of self-serve contract process by coordinating contract intake, required documentation, approval routing, system records, status tracking, troubleshooting problems, and communicating with business owners, Accounting, and Legal.
  • Monitor supplier commitments and purchase-order status, proactively identify delivery risks, and coordinate with suppliers and internal stakeholders to support the timely delivery of goods and services.
  • Compile, validate, and analyze procurement data for quarterly KPI reporting; help identify trends, exceptions, and opportunities for process improvement.
  • Maintain accurate and audit-ready procurement and contract records in accordance with company policies and applicable retention requirements.
  • Provide guidance to business owners regarding purchasing procedures, approval requirements, supplier onboarding, and use of procurement systems.
  • Identify recurring process issues and recommend improvements to procurement workflows, controls, data quality, and user experience.
  • Support supplier performance monitoring and escalate quality, service, compliance, or delivery concerns to the appropriate stakeholders.
  • Additional duties assigned as needed.


Education/Experience Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences, Business, or related discipline required. Equivalent combination of education and applicable job experience may be considered.
  • 2+ years of relevant work experience in supply chain and/or procurement.
  • Experience in Biotech or Pharmaceutical industry highly preferred.

  • Well organized with the ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage shifting responsibilities in a dynamic, cross-functional teamwork environment.
  • Excellent collaboration skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Self-motivation with the ability to work as part of a team and independently.
  • Ability to travel 5% domestically and internationally.
  • All positions have an essential job function to be able to perform face to face work with colleagues and/or onsite in San Diego. No role is expected to be 100% remote.

Target Base Pay Range:
$85,000.00 - $105,000.00
