72About the RoleThis role supports process improvement work to transform the experience of SFU students, faculty and staff. Working as part of a strong project team, the Specialist supports the documentation and analysis of services, processes and systems that create unnecessary friction. The team works collaboratively across SFU to gather input, organize evidence, map current-state processes, identify barriers and interdependencies, and support more coordinated, sustainable and user-centred ways of working.
As part of the Transforming the SFU Experience initiative, the Specialist, Process Improvement supports service optimization work focused on understanding and improving how work flows across SFU. Working closely with the Senior Consultant, Process Re-engineering, the role supports current-state process mapping, documentation, data gathering, issue analysis, working sessions with faculty and staff, and preparation of clear materials to support recommendations and implementation planning.The Specialist will contribute to priority projects across academic and administrative areas by helping identify pain points, handoffs, duplication, manual work, system and data dependencies, service gaps and improvement opportunities. The role will help maintain consistent process documentation, organize findings, track actions and support evidence-informed decision materials that strengthen services and reduce administrative burden for students, faculty and staff.

Full Job Description
QualificationsBachelor's degree in Business Administration or a related discipline, intermediate level Certification in Lean, Six Sigma or related methodology and five years of related experience in business process improvement, which includes experience supporting or leading process mapping, redesign and improvement within large, complex, multi-stakeholder service-focused organizations or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Strong analytical, documentation and problem-solving skills, with the ability to organize complex information clearly.
- Knowledge of process improvement methodologies, such as Lean, Six Sigma, service design, business analysis or equivalent approaches.
- Ability to support current-state assessment, process mapping, issue identification, data gathering and improvement analysis.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear documentation, summaries and decision-support materials.
- Strong coordination and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with faculty and staff across diverse units.

The pay range is the span between the minimum and maximum base salary for the position. The midpoint of the range is approximately halfway between the minimum and the maximum and represents an employee that possesses full job knowledge, qualifications and experience for the position. In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the pay range.
