About the Role

Roger Wood Foods, A Sigma Company, is seeking a Process Engineer to support the design, programming, modification, scheduling, and implementation of electrical and automated systems used throughout our production facility.

This position is responsible for maintaining and improving PLC-based systems that support processing equipment, productivity reporting, yield analysis, and operational efficiency. The Process Engineer will work closely with maintenance technicians and operational leadership to ensure new and existing systems operate safely, accurately, and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain PLC programming used to capture production productivity data, yield analysis, and processing equipment efficiency.
  • Maintain PLC systems, system components, documentation, and schematics.
  • Develop reporting tools that provide accurate, real-time production information.
  • Test new programming and equipment thoroughly before implementation to ensure proper operation without disrupting normal facility activities.
  • Coordinate the design, construction, modification, scheduling, and implementation of electrical and automated processing systems.
  • Establish project costs, budgets, and implementation schedules for approval before purchasing components.
  • Provide operational training and technical guidance to maintenance technicians.
  • Establish system guidelines in coordination with the Process Engineering Manager and company leadership.
  • Support the safe and efficient operation of processing equipment.
  • Follow all Good Manufacturing Practices and Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Perform other related duties and assignments as needed.

Requirements

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, or five years of combined relevant training and experience.
  • Previous supervisory experience is required.
  • Current driver's license is required.
  • Experience with PLC programming, system components, and electrical schematics.
  • Ability to develop, troubleshoot, test, and implement automated systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret customer orders, procedure manuals, technical documents, and operating instructions.
  • Ability to prepare routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to communicate technical information effectively to employees and internal stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving and reasoning skills, including the ability to work through situations with limited direction.
  • Ability to perform practical calculations involving whole numbers, fractions, decimals, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities and prioritize workload.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and production reporting.

Physical Requirements
  • Regularly required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear.
  • Frequently required to walk throughout the facility.
  • Occasionally required to lift or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Must possess the visual ability necessary to perform close work and adjust focus.

Work Environment

This position works in a food manufacturing environment and may be frequently exposed to cold and wet conditions. The facility noise level is generally below 85 decibels based on an eight-hour time-weighted average.
