Job Description

PURPOSE:

The Process Engineer supports PCC Carson City's aerospace manufacturing operations by developing, implementing, and continuously improving manufacturing processes that enhance safety, quality, delivery, and cost performance. This role partners closely with Production, Quality, Engineering, Maintenance, and Operations to troubleshoot manufacturing challenges, optimize process capability, and implement sustainable improvements across the facility.

The Process Engineer leads technical projects, analyzes manufacturing data, supports new product introductions, and applies sound engineering principles to improve productivity, reduce process variation, and ensure compliance with customer, regulatory, and company requirements.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Process Improvement & Manufacturing Support
  • Provide daily engineering support to manufacturing operations by troubleshooting process issues and implementing effective corrective actions.
  • Evaluate manufacturing processes and identify opportunities to improve safety, quality, productivity, throughput, and cost.
  • Apply Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies to reduce process variation and eliminate waste.
  • Analyze manufacturing data, scrap trends, rework, downtime, and process performance to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Develop and implement process controls to ensure consistent product quality and repeatable manufacturing performance.

Technical Engineering
  • Develop, maintain, and improve manufacturing processes, work instructions, engineering standards, and process documentation.
  • Evaluate equipment capabilities, tooling, fixtures, and manufacturing methods to improve operational efficiency.
  • Support new product introduction activities, engineering changes, and process validations.
  • Develop and execute engineering trials to validate process improvements and manufacturing changes.
  • Support automation, robotics, and manufacturing technology improvements where applicable.

Cross Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with Production, Quality, Maintenance, Operations, Supply Chain, and Engineering teams to resolve manufacturing issues.
  • Participate in root cause investigations, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support customer requirements, internal audits, and quality investigations.
  • Communicate technical recommendations and project status to plant leadership.


Project Management
  • Lead technical and capital improvement projects from concept through implementation.
  • Develop project plans, timelines, and cost justifications.
  • Monitor project performance and ensure objectives are achieved.
  • Support equipment installations, startup activities, and process qualifications.

Safety & Compliance
  • Promote a safe work environment and incorporate safety into all engineering solutions.
  • Ensure manufacturing processes comply with customer specifications, environmental regulations, and company standards.
  • Support compliance with quality management systems, NADCAP, and applicable aerospace requirements.

General
  • Maintain accurate engineering documentation and project records.
  • Support training initiatives related to manufacturing processes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support department and business objectives.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to work in both office and manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb stairs, and move throughout the facility during the workday.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 35 pounds independently.
  • Comfortable working in manufacturing environments with exposure to heat, dust, noise, moving equipment, and varying temperatures.
  • Ability to wear required PPE while working in production areas.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related engineering discipline.
  • Previous manufacturing engineering or process engineering experience.
  • Experience within aerospace, investment casting, foundry, heat treat, or other heavy manufacturing environments.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, statistical analysis, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Knowledge of process control, root cause analysis, PFMEA, SPC, DOE, and manufacturing problem-solving techniques.
  • Experience managing engineering projects and implementing process improvements.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple departments.
  • Demonstrates a high level of ownership, initiative, and accountability.
