Responsibilities

Howmet Aerospace is recruiting a Process Engineer for a position in Whitehall, Michigan. The role is in Plant 5- Ti-Cast and will support the manufacture of Titanium castings through process control and improvement initiatives specific to the ceramics department, Monoshell® process.

Job Responsibilities

  • Drive standardized process management for slurry preparation and control, shell build, dewax, and mold inspection, using the scientific method and six sigma tools (training provided).
  • Develop a standardized manufacturing process with audit plans to reduce scrap and rework and to facilitate continuous improvement activities.
  • Work with BU Process owner to establish best practices as defined in BU MSAT manual, and report standardized process audits (MSAT status) monthly.
  • Act as a conduit between manufacturing and engineering to ensure that technology needs are communicated, and new technology is rapidly tested and implemented.
  • Provide specialist advice and leading projects in this area of expertise.
  • Coordinate and plan projects and resources with new vendors and customers.
  • Ensure development and implementation of new ceramic materials and techniques rooted in six sigma methodology.
  • Author and approve new and revised work instructions (Activity Instructions and Product Criteria) for the assigned area of responsibility.
  • Responsible for determination of root cause of any deviation from critical process specification. Responsible for developing a timely and formal reaction plan which will include an escalating help chain system.
  • Write capital requests for specific pre-cast projects and objectives.
  • Active member of Production and NPI part meetings with primary responsibility for developing certain process parameters.

Qualifications

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelors degree in Materials Science or Ceramic Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Two (2) years of engineering experience in a manufacturing or lab environment, supporting process control and improvement
  • Experience in investment casting is preferred, specifically in the areas of slurry production and control, firing of ceramics
  • Knowledge of basic robotic programming
  • Ability to communicate with shop floor and management personnel
  • Ability to organize, manage time and prioritize multiple tasks
  • Able to work in a self-directed or team environment.
  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Must be able to apply engineering concepts to daily observations
  • Must be able to apply principles of standard work
  • Forward thinker - must have the ability to innovate when the opportunity is presented.
  • Knowledge of MS Office, with above average capabilities in Excel and/or Minitab
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma, SQL, and Lean Manufacturing preferred
