Job Description
As a Process Engineer, you'll own the elimination of process losses for a designated production process. You'll be the technical backbone of the operation - using data to find where quality and reliability are slipping, then leading the fixes: from equipment standards and change management to troubleshooting and cross-plant knowledge sharing.
Responsibilities
Scope of Ownership
• Own engineering of assigned equipment/processes
• Lead root-cause resolution and defect elimination
• Lead centerline setting and optimization
• Lead CI and loss-elimination projects
• Lead capital project execution
• Lead standard work and SOP technical content
• Lead startups and changes
• Contribute to Process Reliability (PR) improvement
Key Responsibilities
• Identify, prioritize, and eliminate process losses
• Build process capability and control (PQM / MU)
• Provide feedback to design and lead smart standardization deployment
• Define equipment standards
• Lead change management and validation processes
• Lead and build the team's capability in technical troubleshooting of process failures
• Lead process benchmarking and reapplication across sites
• Execute the technical side of capital projects, startups, and changes
• Help capture tribal knowledge and load it into team training (e.g., Augmentir)
Day-to-Day
• Design, implement, and maintain systems to collect and analyze data on critical product and process parameters
• Use that data to identify process losses
• Work with line management to prioritize improvement opportunities
• Eliminate or reduce prioritized losses by changing processes or work systems
• Participate in daily direction-setting - report results, flag issues, and request resources
• Own critical daily management systems, e.g. center-lining (run-to-target)
• Standardize equipment and work processes; own the change management system for your designated process; update control strategies and operating procedures as changes occur
• Share and reapply learnings across processes, modules, and plants
• Prepare and deliver training on process and equipment changes
• Grow your own capability through corporate and external training
How We Measure Success
• Product Quality Measures (PQM) - product or package defects, measured in PPM
• Process Reliability (PR)
• Downtime reduction on assigned equipment
• Defect elimination and recurrence
• Project delivery on time
• Centerline effectiveness
Direct Reports
None - individual contributor / project lead.
What to Expect
• You'll spend about 80% of your time on the floor, close to the process
• You'll grow into the site's technical expert for a designated process
• You'll qualify across all basic operating roles for that process
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial, or a related discipline)
• Experience in a manufacturing or process engineering role, ideally in a fast-paced production environment
• Strong data analysis and problem-solving skills; comfortable turning process data into prioritized action
• Familiarity with Lean/Six Sigma methods, root-cause analysis, and statistical process control
• Experience with centerline setting/optimization and DOE (Design of Experiments) methods
• Experience leading change management or validation processes for equipment or procedures
• Confident troubleshooter who can lead others through technical failures under pressure
• Strong communication skills - able to train others and influence across functions
• Willingness to spend the majority of your time on the plant floor
