Job Title: Process Controls Engineer

Reliable Controls Corporation is seeking a Process Controls Engineer in Salt Lake City, Utah.

DUTIES: The Process Controls Engineer provides engineering support for controls engineering and commissioning projects at industrial facilities such as processing plants, gas compression facilities, mining facilities and other related types of projects. This position focuses on design and review of instrumentation and automation systems associated with heavy industrial plants. The Process Controls Engineer carries out tasks outlined in the project's completion procedure as defined in the Scope of Work, executes completion activities at project sites, and verifies that documentation is completed.

DUTIES:

(1) Create and implement standards and strategies to improve process efficiency [10%];

(2) Facilitate collaboration among team members for various engineering or technical assignments on a per-project basis [20%];

(3) Design and review instrumentation, automation systems associated with heavy industry processing plants [10%];

(4) Engineer and design network diagrams, loop diagrams, P&ID control depictions, Controls Narrative, and Cause and Effect [10%];

(5) Design process control systems and strategies [10%];

(6) Design, implement, and optimize process network infrastructure and automation processes through modern process control systems [5%];

(7) Program and configure PLC/HMI/DCS/SCADA systems [20%];

(8) Troubleshoot equipment and process controls [10%];

(9) Provide hands on support for commissioning/start-up activities [3%]; and

(10) Perform such other related duties and responsibilities as assigned [2%].. [Note: This role requires extensive travel-up to 80%-to remote domestic and international locations for on-site project assignments. When assigned to an on-site project, you must commit to a rotational work schedule for the duration of the project. Rotation schedules may include: 3 weeks on site / 1 week off; 4 weeks on site / 1- 2 weeks off; 4 weeks on site / 2 weeks off; and 8 weeks on site / 2 weeks off. Project duration varies based on scope and operational needs.]

REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, or a similar engineering field, or its equivalent. Experience: 24 months of experience working as an Electrical, Process Controls, Industrial Automation, Field Testing Engineer, or related occupation.

Other requirements: (1) Must possess a valid driver's license (or be eligible to obtain one within 30 days of the date of hire);

(2) Must have an acceptable driving record;

(3) Proven regular attendance;

(4) Demonstrated ability to: (a) Design and troubleshoot process control systems; (b) engineer, design, and test electrical, instrumentation, and automation systems; (c) design, program, and troubleshoot using PLC/HMI hardware/software; (d) develop and engineer electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and PLC logic; and (e) design and implement process network infrastructure (Ethernet, Device Net, Control Net, etc.);

(5) Demonstrated working knowledge of and competency in: (a) electronic engineering; (b) Microsoft Office programs; (c) PLC ladder logic; (d) digital and sequential logic programming methods; (e) process related closed-loop control systems; (f) engineering principles, practices, and procedures; (g) automation (PLC/DCS) and electrical system design, diagnosis, and operation; (h) the National Electrical Code; and (i) API (American Petroleum Institute) codes as applied to electrical installations; and

(6) Demonstrated commitment to safety.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Working on-site in heavy industrial environments mostly but not limited to mining and gas industries.
  • Extreme temperature conditions, both hot and cold; in and/or around moisture
  • Slippery and/or uneven surfaces, in confined spaces; and at heights.
  • Hours of operation and employee schedules vary based on each project and may require irregular or extended hours and travel for project completion.
  • Travel, including both domestic and international.
  • Frequent standing, occasional bending, squatting, climbing, twisting, balancing, and reaching.
  • Exposure to noise, vibrations, well-treating chemicals, glycol, methanol, gasoline, natural gas, and liquid hydrocarbons.
