A Day in the Life

         

         

This role serves as the lead subject matter expert for Workday Security and partners closely with HR, HR Operations, IT, Audit, Compliance, and other stakeholders to define, maintain, and optimize the Workday security framework. The role is responsible for leading security design, supporting governance and risk management, and ensuring access is aligned with business needs, internal controls, and data protection requirements across the Workday environment.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:

  • Serve as the lead subject matter expert for Workday Security strategy, design, configuration, role and group assignments, and support

  • Own and maintain Workday security configuration, including domain and business process security policies, security role and groups,  segmented security, integration security, and related framework components

  • Lead the design and maintenance of scalable security models that support business needs while protecting confidential and sensitive data

  • Evaluate requested security changes, assess risk, and determine appropriate design solutions in alignment with governance standards and segregation of duties requirements

  • Configure and maintain security for new Workday functionality, organizational changes, acquisitions, process updates, and ongoing business enhancements

  • Partner with HR, HR Operations, IT, and functional Workday teams to ensure security design supports business processes while maintaining compliance and control requirements

  • Provide expert guidance on least-privilege access, role design, approval frameworks, and Workday security best practices

  • Lead complex troubleshooting and resolution of security-related issues, including access problems, process failures, role conflicts, and permission gaps

  • Support Workday feature releases by assessing security impacts, coordinating testing, documenting updates, and implementing approved changes

  • Lead security review activities for Workday projects, enhancements, and production changes to ensure proper access design and control alignment

  • Support external and internal audits, compliance, and internal control activities by maintaining security documentation, executing quarterly and annual SOD audits, providing evidence, and addressing findings or remediation items

  • Monitor and strengthen governance related to Workday Security, including intake, review, approval, testing, migration, system audits, and periodic access validation processes

  • Identify opportunities to improve security consistency, simplify role design, reduce manual access support, and strengthen control effectiveness

  • Act as a lead resource for analysts and cross-functional partners by providing guidance, reviewing design decisions, and promoting best practices

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with 7+ years of Human Capital Management systems to include Workday Security configuration experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years Human Capital Management systems to include Workday security configuration experience

  • Hands-on experience with Workday Security configuration in a complex business environment

Nice to Have

  • Workday PRO Security certification

  • Experience in a principal, lead, or senior analyst role supporting Workday Security

  • Experience supporting security across multiple Workday modules such as HCM, Recruiting, Compensation, Talent, Payroll, Time Tracking, Time Off & Absence, Adaptive, or Benefits

  • Experience with security implications of integrations, single sign-on, or identity and access management processes

  • Experience supporting audit requests, control testing, remediation planning, and security certifications

  • Familiarity with privacy, compliance, and data protection requirements in a regulated environment

  • Experience in large, matrixed, or global organizations

  • Experience establishing security standards, governance processes, or operating models for Workday

  • Experience mentoring analysts or leading cross-functional workstreams

  • Deep experience with Workday domain security policies, business process security policies, security groups, role assignments, and access design

  • Experience leading security design decisions and configuring secure, scalable solutions across Workday modules

  • Experience supporting security governance, risk assessment, segregation of duties, and compliance-related controls

  • Experience troubleshooting complex Workday Security issues and resolving access-related production problems

  • Experience supporting testing, Workday release activities, and change implementation for security-related updates

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to assess risk and make sound design recommendations

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders across technical and business teams

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$113,600.00 - $170,400.00

Pay range / Rango salarial / Intervalo salarial /Fascia retributiva / Tranche de salaire / Gehaltsband / Salaribereik:  Ireland: 79,520.00 EUR - 119,280.00 EUR | 

 

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).

 

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to all regular employees: Incentive plans, 401(k) plan plus employer contribution and match, Short-term disability, Paid time off, Paid holidays, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, Employee Assistance Program, Non-qualified Retirement Plan Supplement (subject to IRS earning minimums), and Capital Accumulation Plan (available to Vice Presidents and above, or subject to IRS earning minimums).
