About the role

Coalition is hiring a Principal Total Rewards Specialist to add senior execution capacity across benefits, compensation operations, and key People Operations processes. In this role, you will own day-to-day benefits administration for the U.S. and Canada, support international benefits, assist with compensation programs, and contribute to core People Ops workflows that improve the employee experience and strengthen operational excellence.

You will be a key member of a lean global Total Rewards and People Operations team, helping to build and scale processes, controls, and employee support across the function while leveraging AI and related tools to streamline manual work and improve how we operate.

Responsibilities
  • Own end-to-end U.S. and Canadian benefits operations, including vendor coordination, eligibility and data updates, escalated employee questions, audits, reconciliations, invoice review, and administration workflows.
  • Partner with theinternational operations lead to support global benefits operations, including vendor and broker coordination, employee inquiries, program documentation, data reconciliation, process improvements, and renewals or new program implementations.
  • Support compensation and equity operations by organizing market data, preparing and supporting benchmarking analysis, preparing compensation cycle templates, tracking and recommending offers and adjustments, and assisting with equity reporting and salary range updates.
  • Partner within People Ops to improve onboarding and offboarding workflows, documentation, ticket triage, employee lifecycle processes, and employee support, stepping into execution work as needed in a lean team environment.
  • Build and maintain SOPs, templates, knowledge base content, recurring audits, and operational reports that improve accuracy, consistency, and visibility across benefits, compensation operations, and People Ops.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen vendor performance, data integrity, compliance controls, and employee experience, and help implement pragmatic improvements over time.
Skills and Qualifications
  • 8+ years of hands-on experience in benefits administration, Total Rewards operations, People Operations, or HR operations in a fast-paced organization, including direct ownership of recurring processes and workflows.
  • Demonstrated experience with U.S. and Canadian benefits, including open enrollment, vendor or broker coordination, employee escalations, audits, reconciliations, and ongoing administration.
  • Exposure to compensation and equity operations such as survey submissions, market data organization, compensation cycle support, equity administration, or recurring HR data analysis and reporting, with advanced Excel skills.
  • Strong operational judgment and attention to detail, with a track record of managing multiple priorities, deadlines, and stakeholders with limited oversight.
  • Comfort collaborating with HRIS, payroll, finance, legal, People Ops, and international partners, and navigating shared ownership across these teams.
  • Strong written communication skills, with the ability to create clear employee-facing resources, process documentation, SOPs, and internal guidance.
  • Experience supporting distributed or global teams, and comfort working across time zones and geographies.
  • A continuous improvement mindset, with openness to iterating on processes, tools, and documentation to better support a scaling company.
Bonus Points
  • Experience in a high-growth or technology-focused company, especially with remote or hybrid workforces.
  • Experience standing up or refining HR or benefits processes during periods of organizational change (such as M&A, new country launches, or system implementations).
  • Familiarity with HRIS, benefits administration platforms, and reporting tools commonly used in global HR environments.
  • Direct involvement in compensation or equity cycles (e.g., annual merit, promotion cycles, equity refresh).
Compensation

As a remote-first organization, our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several Canadian geographic markets.

In Alberta, British Columbia & Ontario the base salary for this position ranges from $130,000/year up to $163,000/year.

For all other locations, the base salary for this position ranges from $117,400/year up to $146,700/year.

Consistent with applicable laws, an employee's pay within this range is based on a number of factors, which include but are not limited to relevant education, skills, job-related knowledge, qualifications, work experience, credentials, and/or geographic location.
