Full Job Description
The Principal Tax Manager provides strategic leadership, mentorship, and technical expertise to one or more of T-Mobile's corporate tax teams. This individual is recognized as a senior subject matter expert across either indirect tax functions or income tax, including complex research and planning for issues such as taxability of new products and services, federal/state/local audits, acquisitions, international tax, and dispositions. With a deep understanding of the telecommunications landscape and regulatory environment, this individual proactively identifies risk and opportunity to drive tax value. The Principal Tax Manager collaborates across teams, mentors professionals, and contributes to driving enterprise value through tax operations excellence. Job Responsibilities: - Provides strategic guidance and direction to executive leadership and business units regarding complex tax issues, including product/service taxability, audit exposure, legislative change management, and operational integration. Leads readouts to executives and cross-functional partners. Serves as a senior voice in matters of risk management, strategy, and operational improvement related to tax issues. - Conducts and leads research, planning, and interpretation of complex business transactions such as M&A, intercompany transactions, restructures and/or indirect tax regulations and transactions. Prepares and presents executive-ready summaries and documentation to internal and external stakeholders. - Collaborates with teams across legal, accounting, IT, and operations to implement and communicate tax policy, ensuring compliant execution of business objectives. Supports tax technology integration and data-driven decision making. - Provides coaching and mentorship to tax professionals and cross-functional team members. Encourages technical growth, promotes audit readiness, and ensures consistency across documentation and reporting. Education and Work Experience: - Bachelor's Degree and 7 years of related work experience OR a combination of education and experience deemed equivalent (Required) - Acceptable areas of study include Accounting or related field Master's/Advanced Degree Accounting or related field (Preferred) - 7-10 years Progressively responsible income tax experience with emphasis on research, tax planning, technology solutions and/or audits (Preferred) - 4-7 years Mentoring others and consulting as subject matter expert in one or more tax specialties (indirect or direct) (Preferred) - 4-7 years Experience with tax compliance software, emerging tax technology, applications and data management tools. Actual earnings may be higher or lower depending on individual performance and overall company results. The base pay range reflects the compensation component of this opportunity. The candidate’s actual pay will be based on various factors, such as work location, qualifications, and experience, so the actual starting pay will vary within this range. Certain positions in Customer Care are eligible for monthly bonuses based on individual and/or team performance.
