Northrop Grumman Mission Systems' Baltimore and Partnered Sites (BaPs) division is seeking a Principal / Senior Principal Electronic Warfare (EW) Systems Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals at our Baltimore, MD campus. Talented candidates with backgrounds in Systems, Electrical, Computer, Mechanical or Radar Engineering as well as Physics, Mathematics, and other related STEM fields are highly encouraged to apply! As the lead developer of RF sensors for some of the most advanced systems in the U.S. arsenal, Northrop Grumman is a world leader in advanced sensor systems and design. These include radars for air dominance platforms (such as the F-22, F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, F-16), bomber and strike programs (such as B-1B), airborne / maritime / ground-based surveillance missions (E-3 AWACS, E-7 MESA, TPS-80 G/ATOR, SEWIP Block 3 and UAV systems such as Global Hawk), as well as restricted programs and missions. Our team has a need for an Electronic Warfare (EW) Systems Engineer supporting the integration and verification of one of the most advanced EW systems ever deployed on a Naval platform. Daily activities may consist of test plan development, operation of a Hardware-in-the-Loop (HWIL) digital test bench for data collection, analysis of test data, development of data analysis tools, mentoring of junior engineers, and the presentation of analysis results.

Successful candidates will have the opportunity to troubleshoot and analyze the performance of highly visible system capabilities alongside a team of talented EW engineers. This position requires up to 100% on-site work in the Linthicum/Baltimore, Maryland campus and an active interim/finalSecret clearance.

What You’ll get to Do:

The selected Principal or Sr. Principal EW Systems Engineer will support the Surface Electronic Warfare Improvement Program (SEWIP) as an individual contributor/task lead. This role is responsible for designing, executing, and documenting EW system integration and test activities at multiple levels of fidelity and supporting data analysis and tool development efforts for the SEWIP program on behalf of the Navy.

Essential Functions:  

  • Develop and execute detailed RF test plans, setups, and procedures to assess system performance in complex and dynamic RF emitter environments.
  • Design controlled experiments for hardware-in-loop and software-in-loop test bench setups to reproduce and troubleshoot results from remote integration facilities.
  • Coordinate RF data collection and analysis across a subsystem integration lab (SSIL), system integration lab (SIL), and remote integration facilities.
  • Troubleshoot RF test setup, test equipment, and operational issues through Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
  • Document test results, prepare test status reports, and present your analysis results to senior leaders and customers, highlighting the impact of your work.
  • Dive into the intricacies of test data, uncovering insights that drive innovation and excellence.
  • Develop data analysis tools that will transform data into actionable insights and advance system design.
  • Mentor junior engineers, sharing your expertise and passion to cultivate future leaders in the field.

  • Bachelor of Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) with a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a bachelor's degree, 3 years with a Master’s degree, or 1 year with a PhD.  An additional 4 years can be considered in lieu of degree.
  • 3+ years of experience designing, integrating, or testing Electronic Warfare (EW) or Radar systems.
  • 2+ years of experience analyzing data collected on EW or Radar systems.
  • Experience and proficiency in troubleshooting system defects, and the ability to develop and drive solutions.
  • Experience operating Hardware-in-the-loop (HWIL) / Software-in-the-loop (SWIL) test benches
  • Experience with RF lab test equipment
  • Proficiency with the MATLAB programming environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop tools to support and enhance analytical tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and present compelling reports that summarize analytical findings, making a significant impact on the decision-making process.
  • Willingness and ability to work up to 100% onsite at the Baltimore campus.

  • 3+ years of experience designing, integrating, or testing Electronic Warfare (EW) or Radar systems.
  • 2+ years of experience analyzing data collected on EW or Radar systems.
  • Experience and proficiency in troubleshooting system defects, and the ability to develop and drive solutions.
  • Experience operating Hardware-in-the-loop (HWIL) / Software-in-the-loop (SWIL) test benches
  • Experience with RF lab test equipment
  • Proficiency with the MATLAB programming environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop tools to support and enhance analytical tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and present compelling reports that summarize analytical findings, making a significant impact on the decision-making process.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Digital Signal Processing and algorithm development.
  • Experience with tools used to analyze Radio Frequency (RF) data at the I/Q level.
  • A strong working knowledge of Python and/or C++.
  • Experience with the integration and test of mature technologies in low-rate production.
  • Experience writing code to analyze Radio Frequency (RF) data at the I/Q level.
  • Experience analyzing Electronic Warfare test data.
  • Experience analyzing the EW kill chain including threat acquisition, tracking, identification/classification, engagement, and warfighter interaction.

This position is contingent upon Interim Secret clearance prior to start.

Primary Level Salary Range: $108,800.00 - $163,200.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $135,800.00 - $203,600.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
