About the team:
The Strategy & Operations (S&O) PMO manages the front-end lifecycle of the Enterprise Tech Backlog (ETB) process for Bank Tech—specifically the intake, evaluation, grooming, and strategic distribution of tech initiatives. The PMO ensures that the right work is prioritized and that leadership has full visibility into progress through executive-level reporting.
In this role, you will lead the strategic coordination of tech intent, partnering with stakeholders across the organization to ensure backlog items are well defined and appropriately routed for delivery. You will be responsible for translating complex technical data into clear narratives for senior leadership, driving transparency and informed decision making through high impact reporting. Beyond external project coordination, this role is critical in maintaining the team’s internal operational health; you will establish and uphold team norms, refine operating processes, and drive internal accountability within the PMO to ensure our team operates efficiently and delivers maximum value to our delivery partners and customers.
General Responsibilities:
Work on large and small scale projects that have a direct impact on the company.
Drive projects based on defined priorities; ensure scope of deliverables, timelines and budget are met; identify risks and issues and mitigate and / or escalate as needed
Plan, design, manage and execute project plans to ensure delivery. This activity includes management through feasibility, design, planning and implementation.
Leverage problem solving skills to ensure project plans deliver on intent and maintain key project documentation
Partner with project customers to provide strategic and tactical thought partnership to effectively drive project delivery
Forge relationships with key stakeholders to ensure delivery of commitments
Identify ways to improve and streamline business process
Exhibit a proven track record of project management, bringing the ability to quickly put structure in place to manage the work
Demonstrate outstanding communication and partnership skills which are essential for interacting and communicating with key stakeholders across all levels to manage, inform, and influence outcomes
Demonstrate organizational agility to adapt to changing demands
Display strong consulting and collaboration skills
Basic Qualifications:

Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA)
6+ years of Project Management experience
PMP, Lean, Agile or Six Sigma certification
1+ year of experience working in Enterprise Technology Programs
1+ year of experience identifying, assessing, and managing technology risk
1+ year of experience in communications planning and development
1+ year of Continual Improvement experience

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
McLean, VA: $120,800 - $137,900 for Principal Project Manager
Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.
This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
