This role involves collaborating with clinicians, engineers, and cross-functional partners to improve usability, safety, and efficiency for hospital beds, mobile and overhead patient lift systems, and other product portfolios. Your efforts will directly support developing new products and sustaining engineering initiatives.
When you come on board at Baxter as a Principal Engineer, Human Factors, you will apply your analytical methodology to pinpoint risks and opportunities for innovation promptly. Nimble and ready to act, you maintain composure in high-pressure situations.
What you'll be doingLead and drive implementation of training, continuous improvement efforts, and overall initiatives to improve functional outcomes.
Conduct user research, usability testing, and user-centered development activities to ensure our products meet customers' needs and mitigate risk effectively.
Develop and maintain human factors plans, protocols, and reports.
Support creation of user needs, claims, and critical tasks during the product requirements phase.
Lead cross-functional meetings on a variety of human factors topics related to project execution.
Guide and support team members as a mentor to help them acquire the essential skills and knowledge needed for their job responsibilities.
Develop and showcase reports, charts, and graphs to share findings and recommendations with customers.
Keep up to date with industry trends and advancements in human factors engineering and communicate guidelines to team members and collaborators.
What you'll bringBachelors degree or higher and 5+ years of experience in Human Factors Engineering, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience Development, Biomedical Science, or Engineering.
Deep understanding and demonstrated application of regulatory requirements and industry standards, including FDA guidelines, IEC 62366, IEC 60601-1-6, AAMI HE75, ISO 14971.
Experience with usability testing and user research.
Outstanding oral and written communication abilities and the capacity to lead and collaborate efficiently within varied, cross-disciplinary groups.
Ability to navigate ambiguity and apply problem-solving skills to complex issues.
Diligent with excellent organization and time management skills.
Continuous improvement / lean experience or interest desired.
Experience with SAP preferred.

At Baxter, we are committed to equitable pay for all employees, and we strive to be more transparent with our pay practices. The estimated base salary for this position is $112,000-$154,000 annually. The estimated range is meant to reflect an anticipated salary range for the position. We may pay more or less than of the anticipated range based upon market data and other factors, all of which are subject to change. Individual pay is based on upon location, skills and expertise, experience, and other relevant factors. This position may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
