Opportunity OverviewThe Head of Data is a transformational enterprise leader responsible for redefining how Edward Jones competes through data, elevating data from a supporting capability to a core, strategic asset that powers advice, digital experiences, and AI at scale. This role will architect and lead a multi-year transformation to a modern, product-oriented enterprise, embedding Data-as-a-Product, AI-ready data foundations, and real-time intelligence into the fabric of the firm. The Head of Data will build a best-in-class data ecosystem, spanning structured and unstructured data (e.g. client interaction, transcripts, behavioral signals), to enable hyper-personalized, knowledge-powered advice in real time. Reporting as a senior enterprise leader, this individual will operate at the intersection of business, technology, and innovation, shaping how data is created, governed, and consumed across analytics, AI, and client-facing capabilities. They will partner closely with business segments, Digital, EJ Labs, Risk, and Compliance to modernize the operating model, unlock enterprise value, and position Edward Jones as a data and AI leader in wealth management.
What you'll do:- Lead the enterprise data vision: Drive a bold, enterprise-wide data strategy that positions data as a core enabler of Edward Jones' ambition to become a knowledge-powered, AI-enabled advisory firm. Define clear business outcomes, KPIs, and value realization pathways, including opportunities to unlock data assets, and align the organization around a shared, ambitious vision.
- Lead the shift to data-as-a-product capability: Build and scale a true Data-as-a-Product capability, with domain-aligned data products that are reusable, high-quality, and governed, with clear ownership, SLAs, and measurable adoption across the enterprise.
- Establish a business-owned data governance: Implement and evolve the enterprise data governance framework, establishing a strong Data Governance Council and embedding true business ownership and stewardship across domains. Ensure data quality, integrity, privacy, & regulatory compliance, while elevating governance to enable trusted, scalable data for analytics and AI.
- Enable AI, advanced analytics, and real-time intelligence: Partner with Product, Technology and EJ Labs leadership to power advanced analytics, ML, and GenAI use cases through AI-ready ("platinum layer") data products. Enable real-time and event-driven data capabilities and integrate unstructured data (e.g., transcripts, notes, documents) to support next-best-action and personalized client experiences.
- Knowledge architecture & semantic enablement: Lead the development of a robust enterprise knowledge architecture, including a business glossary, ontology, and semantic layer, to create a consistent enterprise-wide understanding of data. Enable discoverability, interoperability, and AI reasoning through well-defined metadata and knowledge frameworks.
- Modernize & optimize data platforms: Own and oversee the evolution of scalable, secure, and cost-efficient data platforms (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks) to support enterprise-wide data and AI use cases. Drive the development of reusable technical data components (e.g., ingestion pipelines, transformation frameworks, connectors and business rules engine & analytical services for data mastering, aggregation, derivation, and quality control) to enable scalable, self-service data and analytics capabilities, while maintaining strong platform performance and cost discipline.
- Transform the operating model: Establish a clear enterprise data operating model, driving accountability across business stakeholders, Engineering, and Data, and enabling seamless collaboration with reduced dependencies and faster time to value.
- Build and scale world-class data talent: Own the development of a world-class data organization, attracting, developing, and retaining top talent aligned to the firm's long-term ambitions, while reinforcing a clear, shared vision and ensuring internal teams are aligned to deliver enterprise data priorities.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as a key advisor to the firm's Executive Leadership Team and other key senior level roles, Investment Committees, and Risk leaders on data strategy, priorities, and investments.
- Vendor & Cost Management: Drive data vendor strategy and platform economics to ensure scalability, cost discipline, and long-term value.
