Full Job Description
What you will do

As the Principal Enterprise Architect - Business & Information, you will help Mack Trucks and Volvo Trucks North America make better business and technology decisions by bringing business, information, application, and enterprise context to significant choices before major commitments are made.

You will connect strategy and prioritized business outcomes to capabilities, value streams, information, applications, and transformation direction. Success is measured by better decisions, earlier alignment, and fewer avoidable surprises - not by the volume of architecture artifacts produced.

Core Responsibilities
Responsibility examples of the Principal Enterprise Architect - Business & Information Architecture:
Support significant decisions: Partner with business and product leaders to clarify intended outcomes, evaluate viable alternatives, and make material dependencies, risks, costs, assumptions, and tradeoffs visible before major commitments are made.
Lead Business Architecture: Connect strategy and business outcomes to capabilities, value streams, operating models, initiatives, and investments, and develop practical target direction and transformation sequencing.
Lead Information Architecture: Clarify important business-information concepts, ownership, authoritative sources, quality expectations, lifecycle, information flows, protection, and reuse.
Identify enterprise consequences across domains: Surface duplication, fragmentation, dependencies, and opportunities to appropriately reuse existing capabilities, information, products, applications, platforms, technologies, and services.
Provide enterprise context for significant technology and platform decisions: Collaborate with DTO, Solution Architects, and Technical Leads while preserving detailed solution-design and delivery accountability.
Engage early and proportionately: Support significant decisions and established architecture or governance forums with the level of analysis appropriate to the significance and consequences of the decision.
Maintain decision-relevant architecture knowledge: Use SAP LeanIX and other appointed repositories, models, roadmaps, diagrams, and architecture views to support decisions rather than documentation for its own sake.

As a Principal Enterprise Architect, you are expected to:
• Operate across multiple business and architecture domains and identify enterprise implications that may not be visible within an individual product, function, or delivery team.
• Serve as a trusted architecture advisor to senior business, product, and technology leaders on significant decisions, investments, and transformations.
• Lead complex and ambiguous engagements where the problem, desired outcome, ownership, dependencies, or viable alternatives may not yet be clear.
• Influence significant decisions through expertise, analysis, facilitation, relationships, and recommendations rather than formal decision authority.
• Establish direction, mentor others, and advance Business Architecture, Information Architecture, and decision-oriented Enterprise Architecture practices.

Business domains may include Dealer-facing digital products and services, Truck Sales, Parts Sales, Service Contracts and Support, Product Marketing, Customer Relationship Management, and other commercial or aftermarket areas based on business priorities.

The role works across domain boundaries and with Truck Brands and Volvo Group where decisions have broader enterprise implications.

Who are you?

The Principal Enterprise Architect - Business & Information Architecture demonstrates:
  • Business & Leadership: Strong business acumen, strategic thinking, executive communication, stakeholder influence, constructive challenge, and the ability to develop a strong understanding of the supported business.
  • Decision Support: Decision framing, alternatives and tradeoff analysis, dependency analysis, facilitation, and the ability to work effectively through ambiguity and competing priorities.
  • Business Architecture: Business capabilities, value streams, operating models, strategy-to-execution alignment, target direction, and transformation planning.
  • Information Architecture: Business-information concepts, ownership, authoritative sources, quality, lifecycle, information flows, protection, and reuse.
  • Enterprise Architecture: Application, integration, platform, lifecycle, reuse, and cross-domain dependency analysis, with sufficient technology understanding to collaborate credibly with technical architecture and delivery organizations.
  • Strongly preferred: Hands-on SAP LeanIX experience. Practical knowledge of TOGAF, BIZBOK, ArchiMate, BPMN, and related architecture methods is beneficial. Relevant automotive, commercial vehicle, manufacturing, aftermarket, dealer, customer, data, or digital-product experience is also beneficial.

• Competitive medical, dental and vision insurance.
• Generous paid time off.
