About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Principal Engineer to lead the design, development, and delivery of Generative AI (GenAI) and Agentic AI solutions across enterprise platforms. This role will operate as a senior technical leader responsible for shaping enterprise AI strategy, driving complex engineering initiatives, and delivering scalable, secure, and high-performing AI-powered solutions.

The Principal Engineer will bring deep expertise in full-stack engineering, modern cloud platforms, and agent-based architectures, enabling intelligent, multi-agent systems that deliver automation, decision support, and enhanced customer and employee experiences.

In this role, you will:

  • Act as a trusted technical advisor to senior leadership and influence enterprise-wide technology strategy and AI adoption
  • Lead the design and implementation of GenAI and Agentic AI architectures, including multi-agent orchestration, planning, and tool-based execution
  • Drive development of end-to-end full-stack solutions, including front-end applications, backend services, APIs, and cloud-native platforms
  • Build and scale AI-powered applications, including virtual assistants, agent assist solutions, and workflow automation systems
  • Design and implement RAG pipelines, prompt engineering frameworks, and AI evaluation mechanisms
  • Lead integration of AI solutions with enterprise platforms, APIs, and external systems
  • Establish and enforce best practices for software engineering, AI governance, and platform reliability
  • Provide technical leadership across multiple teams, ensuring solutions are scalable, reusable, and aligned to enterprise standards
  • Collaborate with product, data science, and business teams to translate requirements into innovative engineering solutions
  • Mentor engineers and promote engineering excellence across the organization

Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • 5+ years of experience in full-stack development (Java, Spring Boot, Node.js, Python)
  • 5+ years of experience with cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, or Azure)
  • 1+ year of hands-on experience building and deploying GenAI or conversational AI solutions
  • 1+ year of strong understanding of microservices architecture, APIs, and distributed systems
  • 1+ year of experience with LLM-based systems, prompt engineering, or RAG architectures

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with Agentic AI frameworks (LangChain, LangGraph, CrewAI, or similar)
  • Experience with Vertex AI, OpenAI, or similar GenAI platforms
  • Background in contact center or conversational AI domains (IVR, IVA, Agent Assist)
  • Experience designing multi-agent systems with planning, reasoning, and tool orchestration
  • Knowledge of AI governance, model risk management, and enterprise compliance practices
  • Strong ability to influence across organizations and communicate complex technical concepts

Pay Range

Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to demonstrated examples of prior performance, skills, experience, or work location. Employees may also be eligible for incentive opportunities.

$159,000.00 - $305,000.00
