Northrop Grumman Space Systems—Missile Defense Integration offers an excellent opportunity for a Principal Engineer Systems – Network Sys Engr III (26-388) to join our team of skilled and diverse professionals. Based in Colorado Springs, CO, this role is essential to supporting the U.S. President, the Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at the strategic, regional, and operational levels.

This position does not provide relocation assistance and requires on-site work with no remote options.

 

Position Overview:

 

The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program is a key component of the Missile Defense System. It is a vital operational system that enables the U.S. president, the Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to plan ballistic missile defense operations systematically, collectively monitor the battle, and dynamically control networked sensors and weapon systems to achieve global and regional mission goals. C2BMC supports layered missile defense capabilities that enable an optimized response to threats across all ranges and flight phases. It serves as a force multiplier by networking, integrating, and synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations, both globally and regionally, to improve performance. C2BMC is essential for all ground and flight tests that verify and demonstrate the current and future capabilities of missile defense systems.

 

In this role, the candidate will serve as a Networks Systems Engineer (SE). As Networks SE, they will serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) on the NES ART, develop and execute the Network Systems Engineering Plan, and provide guidance on all systems engineering issues. Networks SE will also serve as the liaison between the Networks ART and the Systems Engineering, Integration, and Test (SEIT) Resource Managed Area (RMA), ensuring that all processes and procedures are consistent and aligned.

 

Essential Functions:

 

  • Candidate will lead all Networks requirements activities, including identification and management of the Networks requirements baseline
  • Candidate will develop and maintain Requirements Traceability Verification Matrix (RTVM) and system/sub-system requirements allocation to ensure traceability of requirements from development through deployment and manage Networks requirements sell-off plan
  • Candidate will serve as a systems engineering interface/liaison between NES ART and the C2BMC SEIT team to ensure consistency in systems engineering principles and practices
  • Candidate will support systems engineering and architecture meetings, both internal to the National Team and with the government customer
  • Candidate will support the development and review of systems engineering artifacts (e.g., specifications, Interface Control Documents, Use Cases, System Architecture Descriptions, Trade Studies) and author and/or conduct formal and informal engineering reviews as required
  • Candidate will be responsible for developing interface documentation, diagrams, system modeling efforts, and architectural documentation
  • Candidate will implement standards and patterns across the ART to ensure the quality and consistency of deliverables
  • Candidate will be responsible for establishing and maintaining the Network Systems Engineering model
  • The candidate will be tasked with creating high-level design documents to be integrated into the current baseline of the Missile Defense System Communication Network Implementation Specification (MCNIS)
  • Candidate will support proposal efforts, including the development of technical approaches to meet requirements and the generation of engineering estimates
  • Candidate will provide mentoring to team members to develop standardization of systems engineering processes and procedures across the Networks ART
  • Candidate will adhere to DOORS processes and procedures, review the content and details of technical products, and serve as a technical interface to MDA working-level counterparts as required
  • Candidate will interface with internal team members, C2BMC management, and government customers to ensure high-quality products are delivered on time and within available resources
  • Candidate must be willing and able to support real-world events, including nights and weekends

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in STEM Computer Science, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field from an accredited university, along with 5 years of experience; or a Master’s degree (preferred) in a STEM-related field with 3 years of relevant work experience; or a PhD in a related discipline with 1 year of relevant work experience
  • Applicants must have a current, active Government-Issued 8140 certification at IAT Level II or higher (such as Security+, GSEC, SCNP, SSCP, CISSP, CISA, GSE, SCNA, etc.) at the time of application, which is required to start. The candidate is responsible for maintaining their 8140 certifications throughout the entire contract period
  • Applicants must have a current, active in-scope Government-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application, which is required to start
  • Willingness to travel 10% of the time for business needs
  • Thorough understanding of systems engineering processes and principles
  • Proventrack record of applying systems engineering principles to develop product solutions
  • Experience collaborating within an integrated team with other systems, software, and specialty engineers to develop solutions
  • Experience developing systems engineering artifacts (e.g., specifications, Interface Control Documents, Use Cases, System Architecture Descriptions, Trade Studies, etc.)
  • Candidates should have experience developing large, complex systems
  • Experience with model-based systems engineering (MBSE) and related tools

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Master's Degree in Systems Engineering is highly preferred
  • Certification: INCOSE Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) Certification
  • Certification: Object Management Group Certified Systems Modeling Professional - Model Builder Fundamental (OCSMP - MBF)
  • Previous experience with C2BMC
  • Experience working within an Agile development environment, domain experience in both Space and Missile Defense, and experience with Systems Analysis, Model-Based Systems Engineering, Architecture development, Virtualization, Containerization, and Cloud Computing principles
  • Demonstrated experience leading large, multi-site software development efforts, including external interface development
  • Demonstrated experience conducting or leading Analysis of Alternatives, Trade Studies, and/or Design Evaluations
  • Experience designing large command-and-control and/or weapon systems

Primary Level Salary Range: $103,600.00 - $155,400.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
