Full Job Description

Wells Fargo is seeking a Principal Engineer within the Commercial Corporate & Investment Bank Technology (CCIBT) organization.

Candidate will architect, build, and lead the next-generation Strategic Trade Management platform components for our Fixed Income, Currencies & Commodities (FICC) and Derivatives businesses. This is a high-visibility opportunity to modernize and transform our core trade lifecycle capabilities at enterprise scale — combining low-latency execution with complex derivative modeling, real-time valuations, and intelligent trade event orchestration.

Candidate will contribute to the end-to-end technical vision for a cross-asset trade lifecycle management platform that supports all Fixed Income cash and derivative products. In its end state, the platform positions Wells Fargo Trading Businesses with a competitive advantage by accelerating the launch of new products, regulatory compliance, and business growth. Working directly with trading desks, quant teams, and senior technology leadership, you will drive our modernization journey by embedding AI in all aspects of SDLC as well as the workflows of the platform enabling next-generation client experience in one of the most dynamic capital markets environments.

In this role, you will:

  • Act as an advisor to leadership to develop or influence applications, network, information security, database, operating systems, or web technologies for highly complex business and technical needs across multiple groups

  • Lead the strategy and resolution of highly complex and unique challenges requiring in-depth evaluation across multiple areas or the enterprise, delivering solutions that are long-term, large-scale and require vision, creativity, innovation, advanced analytical and inductive thinking

  • Translate advanced technology experience, an in-depth knowledge of the organizations tactical and strategic business objectives, the enterprise technological environment, the organization structure, and strategic technological opportunities and requirements into technical engineering solutions

  • Provide vision, direction and expertise to leadership on implementing innovative and significant business solutions

  • Maintain knowledge of industry best practices and new technologies and recommends innovations that enhance operations or provide a competitive advantage to the organization

  • Strategically engage with all levels of professionals and managers across the enterprise and serve as an expert advisor to leadership

  • Hands-on, Lead by example — design, code, and deliver production-grade microservices using Java, gRPC, Python/FastAPI, service mesh, reactive architectures, and Micro Front-End patterns. Integrate agentic development practices with GitHub Copilot and custom LLM agents to accelerate delivery velocity by 3–5x.

  • Low-Latency & Complex Cash & Derivative Expertise: Engineer sub-millisecond trade processing paths for rates, credit, FX, and commodities while maintaining strict non-functional requirements (NFRs) for throughput, resilience, data consistency, and auditability.

  • Modernization & Transformation: Lead the decommissioning of legacy monolithic systems and the migration to a cloud-native, vertically integrated system-of-record with embedded agentic intelligence for trade-event modeling, exception handling, and real-time valuations.

  • Influence & Stakeholder Leadership: Partner across Trading, Quant, Risk, Operations, and Compliance to translate complex business needs into scalable technology solutions. Influence enterprise standards, architecture review boards, and capital markets platform strategy.

  • Mentorship & Engineering Excellence013Mentor senior engineers and technologists; establish best practices for secure, observable, and testable code; drive adoption of modern engineering disciplines across the Capital Markets Technology organization.

Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

  • 4 + years of Software Engineering experience, with at least 5 years in a principal or Lead Architect capacity within a global Capital Markets environment

  • 4+ years High-Performance Stack: Proven mastery of Java (concurrency, JVM tuning) and Python (FastAPI, data science libraries)

Desired Qualifications:

  • Agentic Development: Experience implementing GitHub CoPilot or similar AI-assisted engineering tools at scale to drive 2Agentic Development2 workflows.

  • Modern UI Patterns: Experience with Micro Front Ends to decouple the trader UI and allow for independent module deployment
