Full Job Description
Purpose:

Worley is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer in our Billings Montana office location to lead electrical engineering delivery across a portfolio of projects.

In this role, you will provide advanced electrical engineering services to Worley and its customers, offering technical leadership, oversight, and supervision within the electrical engineering team.

You will be responsible for managing and mentoring a team of engineers and designers, ensuring high-quality, compliant, and efficient delivery across oil, gas, and chemical projects. This includes guiding technical direction, reviewing deliverables, and driving performance to meet project objectives, safety standards, and client expectations.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage a team of electrical engineers and designers and oversee their work on oil/gas/chemical projects.
  • Plan, organize and direct engineering work, ensuring on-time completion, safety-in-design and quality outcomes from conception to completion.
  • Collaborate with project management, client, other disciplines to meet project objectives. May lead one or more projects while providing guidance for other lead engineers within the program.
  • Maintain relationship with project management and client to ensure satisfaction with the quality and progress of the project.
  • Candidate shall have the ability to communicate effectively (written, emails, verbal) with the team and with management, and shall possess strong leadership and problem-solving skills; shall have the ability to motivate, create a positive work environment, helping the team to learn, grow and work together to achieve common goals.
  • Deliver electrical engineering services that meet Worley, its customers' and applicable statutory and regulatory specifications, on time and within budget.
  • Initiate, manage and if required supervise electrical engineering project requirements.
  • Perform electrical engineering services such as:
    • Participate in relevant meetings, prepare progress reports, and follow required checking procedures.
    • Ensure the project scope is clear and that changes comply with project change management processes.
    • Provide assistance and advice during procurement, construction and commissioning activities. For example, write requisitions, conduct technical bid evaluations, and write purchase orders.
  • If required, act as the electrical engineering Lead on specific projects.
  • If responsible for a team:
    • Outline project requirements including actively promoting workshare, where appropriate, assign tasks and supervise progress and
    • Ensure the required services meet Worley, its customers, and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements, on time and within budget.
  • Proactively resolve any discrepancies between Worley and its Customer's requirements.
  • Keep up to date with the latest developments and technical innovations in electrical engineering.
  • If required, assist and support junior personnel within the electrical engineering team.
  • Communicate effectively with the electrical engineering team, other interfacing disciplines and project stakeholders, including the Customer.
  • Identify issues and problems, develop appropriate solutions, and ask for assistance when required.

Technical/Industry Experience and Qualifications Requirements:
  • Excellent technical and practical engineering skills and ability to consistently deliver quality, accurate and timely work to Worley and its clients.
  • Excellent knowledge of the fundamental requirements of the electrical engineering, and the basic requirements of other engineering fields.
  • Excellent knowledge of applicable local and international standards and statutory and regulatory specifications.
  • Competent use of relevant software such as MS Office Suite and electrical engineering specific software, ETAP, SPL.
  • Development, design of MV, LV electrical distribution systems, equipment selection, protective relay selection, power management system configuration, interface management.
  • Perform/review power systems studies and protective device settings.
  • Extensive technical and practical experience in electrical engineering in the same or similar industry including experience in working in multi-disciplinary projects and teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • 12 plus years' experience in oil and gas industry.
  • Oil and gas experience.
  • Experience in software such as MS Office Suite and electrical engineering specific software, ETAP, SPL.
  • Development, design of electrical distribution systems, equipment selection, protective relay selection, power management system configuration.

Education - Qualifications, Accreditation, Training:

Required:
  • A recognized and relevant BS or MS degree in Electrical Engineering.

Preferred:
  • Relevant postgraduate qualifications in engineering, management, project management or supervisory qualifications or equivalent.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) status US.
