Step into the role of a Principal Architect at JPMorganChase and become a driving force behind the development and adoption of cutting-edge, cloud-based technologies.

As a Principal Architect at JPMorganChase within the Consumer and Community Banking, you will shape the architecture strategy for modern, cloud-based platforms and guide teams in delivering secure, resilient solutions at scale. You will translate complex business needs into clear target-state architectures, influence roadmaps, and enable adoption of strategic enterprise solutions. You will partner across product, design, engineering, and control functions to raise engineering standards and drive measurable outcomes.

Job responsibilities
  • Architect scalable, resilient, cloud-native solutions aligned to business outcomes and long-term platform strategy
  • Define and communicate target-state architecture, reference patterns, and technical roadmaps to guide delivery teams
  • Partner with product management and experience design to translate customer and business needs into end-to-end technical solutions
  • Lead architecture reviews and participate in governance forums to ensure consistency, reuse, and risk-aware design decisions
  • Guide teams on secure-by-design practices, privacy considerations, and industry-standard controls across the software lifecycle
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership, including design reviews, code reviews, and complex troubleshooting to improve quality and reliability
  • Evaluate emerging technologies (including AI agent capabilities) and recommend pragmatic adoption paths that improve speed, safety, and maintainability
  • Influence cross-functional stakeholders and senior leaders through clear, structured communication and data-driven recommendations
  • Drive continuous improvement in engineering practices, observability, and operational excellence to strengthen production stability


Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
  • Formal training or certification on architecture concepts and 10+ years of applied experience, including hands-on experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability for large-scale platforms
  • Deep knowledge of software architecture and at least one area of specialization (for example: cloud platforms, artificial intelligence, machine learning, or mobile)
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex architecture problems by applying new methods, patterns, and tradeoff-based decisioning
  • Practical experience designing and delivering cloud-native architectures (for example: containerization, service-oriented design, and scalable data patterns)
  • Proven experience providing technical leadership across multiple teams, including guiding delivery through the full project lifecycle
  • Strong communication skills, with experience presenting architectural decisions and options to senior leaders and executives
  • Demonstrable experience applying AI agent capabilities to improve engineering productivity and/or customer outcomes, with appropriate controls and risk awareness


Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills
  • Experience designing platforms and products supporting Business Banking or small business client journeys
  • Experience operating in large, regulated environments with strong alignment to security and risk management expectations
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Experience defining platform standards and enabling adoption through reusable patterns, documentation, and developer enablement
  • Experience as a product owner or product manager, including backlog shaping and roadmap influence
