The Institutional Research Analyst 4 is responsible for providing expert analysis, information and recommendations to campus leadership regarding the university's performance related to student outcomes, campus climate, the student experience, faculty positions, facilities and other resources, and instructional workload.

Develop, interpret and implement highly complex analytical studies that rely on large, complex data sets resulting in reports suitable for presentation at the highest administrative /executive levels. Synthesize and summarize complex information in formats appropriate for various audiences.

Coordinate with all levels of management, stakeholders and subject experts within and outside of the institution, to gather, analyze, summarize, and prepare recommendations regarding student, employee and other institutional outcomes.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

• Bachelor's degree in Economics, Sociology, Education, Statistics or other related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience using large and complex datasets to manipulate and analyze data to make comparisons, answer specific questions, design and create graphical displays of data analysis and develop estimates or models in an efficient manner, that can effectively communicate a significant amount of information.
• Experience with research and evaluation methodology including multivariate statistical methods, predictive modeling and proper interpretations of those models. Firm understanding of the benefits and limits of a variety of statistical techniques.
• Experience in Microsoft Excel, other common Microsoft Office programs, Tableau or other data visualization software, Stata or other statistical software to distill relevant information from large data sets and present that information to campus decision makers and stakeholders.
• Proactive analytical, problem diagnosis, problem-solving and management skills to independently research, develop and recommend solutions to complex problems and issues.
• Data management and communication skills to functionally manage complex multi-partner data systems.
• Oral and written communication skills appropriate for individual, group and formal presentations, to interact effectively with diverse communities and senior leaders to present complex data, prepare analytical reports, proposals, and correspondence to facilitate decision- making.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in a social science research discipline, public policy, statistics, or related disciplines, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Five to seven years of experience in a related field.
• Experience working in an institution of higher education or with higher education policy.
• Knowledge and understanding of higher education policy issues at the university, state, and national levels.

Department Overview

Budget & Institutional Analysis (BIA) is a division of Finance and Resource Management that provides decision support on the efficient and effective management of campus budget resources to the Senior Associate Vice Chancellor, the Vice Chancellor for Finance, Operations & Administration, the Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor and various campus leaders, groups and committees. In addition, the division provides policy analyses on a wide range of issues, including enrollment, instructional workload, faculty positions, student success and other institutional policies. Within BIA, the Institutional Analysis (IA) unit serves the campus at large and BIA by providing accurate and meaningful information about financial resources, enrollment, student academic outcomes, university rankings, students, academic and staff employees, faculty positions and instructional workload in support of decisions about various matters of institutional policy; partners with other decision support units as a collaborative catalyst to place actionable knowledge about UC Davis and its programs into the hands of executive decision makers; designing tools that provide easy and transparent access to mission-critical data; developing and maintaining information systems that enable units to efficiently and effectively manage enrollment, the operating budget, instruction, and faculty resources.
