Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of the global accounting cycle for balance sheet accounts, including month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, ensuring accuracy and collaborating on corrections with staff.
  • Manage lease accounting and partner with the Real Estate team regarding the global facilities portfolio.
  • Collaborate with FP&A and HR to accurately book and reconcile restructuring provisions.
  • Prepare and review general ledger account reconciliations, verifying data accuracy and addressing issues with global or regional significance.
  • Provide audit support for corporate and local audits, ensuring compliance and thoroughness.
  • Identify avenues for process improvement and assist with global standardization efforts.
  • Analyze accounting and financial records to guarantee adherence to accounting standards and procedures.

Job Description

The Principal Accountant will be a motivated and organized individual with a strong ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment. This is an individual contributor role. They will oversee day to day accounting, including but not limited to journal entry preparation and approval, month end closing and account reconciliations. In addition, the Principal Accountant will assist with global standardization as well as various ad hoc projects.

Responsibilities
  • Owning all aspects of the global accounting cycle for a comprehensive set of balance sheet accounts including the monthly, quarterly and year-end financial close
  • Preparing and reviewing journal entries, verify accuracy and work with staff to correct issues
  • Ownership of lease accounting, including partnering with the Real Estate team to understand the global facilities portfolio and any new or modified leases
  • Partner with FP&A and HR to ensure restructuring provisions are accurately booked and reconciled
  • Preparing and reviewing general ledger account reconciliations, verify accuracy of data, and reports, identify, and correct issues raised at the global or regional level
  • Audit support pertaining to corporate and local audits
  • Identify process improvements and help with global standardization
  • Examine and analyze accounting and financial records to ensure accuracy and compliance with established accounting standards and procedures
  • Work on ad hoc projects based on the requirements from Global Finance team


Requirements
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in accounting with global exposure to multiple countries. Prior experience in audit is considered an asset.
  • Strong technical accounting skills
  • SAP experience preferred
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment with global team
  • High attention to detail & time management
  • Strong investigative skills & ability to troubleshoot
  • Legal authorization to work in Canada


Education
  • Bachelor's degree required; degree in accounting or finance preferred
  • CPA required
