Northrop Grumman is seeking Principal Systems Engineers/Sr. Principal Systems Engineers. This position will be located at our Space sector in Azusa, CA. The qualified candidate will become part of Northrop Grumman's SEIT System Performance Analysis team.

Roles and Responsibilities

Specific duties include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Complete understanding and wide application of the systems engineering lifecycle, including requirements analysis, design, integration, test, and verification. General knowledge of other related performance analysis techniques/disciplines.
  • Displays Technical and program review board leadership. Provides technical solutions to a wide range of complex difficult problems. Solutions are imaginative, thorough, practicable, and consistent with organization objectives.
  • Works under only general direction. Independently determines and develops approach to solutions. Work is reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives. Supports chief engineers in defect analysis and path forwards
  • Contributes to the completion of Change Proposal Development and Risk Management and Opportunity analysis.
  • Frequent inter-organizational and outside customer contacts. Represents the organization in providing solutions to difficult technical issues associated with specific projects.
  • Collaborate with program IPT counterparts to develop rigorous and proper systems engineering and design analysis artifacts.
  • Work with technical teams and stakeholders to develop and mature design of a large program with System of Systems (SoS)
  • Help develop and incorporate the appropriate requirements for the system and ensure that they are properly represented in the model.
  • Contribute to system requirements development, management, and performance analysis.
  • Develop unifying model techniques, procedures, processes (for model development, tool integration, and team integration), and performance analysis of the system


This requisition may be filled at either the Principal Systems Engineer level (T-03) or Sr Principal Systems Engineer level (T-04).

Basic Qualifications for Associate Systems/Systems Engineer:
  • Principal Systems Engineer: Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) with 5 of related experience; or a Master's degree in STEM with 3 of relevant experience; PhD in STEM with 1+ years of relevant experience.
  • Sr. Principal Systems Engineer: Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) field with 8 years of related experience; OR a Master's degree in STEM with 6 years of relevant experience and/or PhD in a STEM field with 4 of related experience.
  • Active DoD Secret clearance required at the time of application with the ability and willingness to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance before start date
  • Demonstrated proficiency in analytical thinking, problem solving skills and systems thinking mindset
  • Knowledge of and experience in MATLAB, C, C++, CUDA, SysML, MBSE, Python, Julia, Cameo, Rhapsody, DOORS, Jira, Confluence or other languages
  • Integrated product team (IPT) environment experience


Preferred Qualifications for Prin/Sr Prin Systems Engineer:
  • Agile development experience
  • Domain Knowledge or course history of space systems
  • Experience in an abstract modeling environment (Rhapsody, Cameo, UML, SysML, etc) for space systems evaluation
  • Experience performing system verification and validation
  • Working knowledge of EOIR systems, optics, algorithms, detection or tracking
  • Knowledge of and experience in model-based systems engineering concepts such as SysML and tools such as Cameo and Rhapsody
  • Experience with virtual environments, operational analysis or mission modeling (AFSIM, STK, BRAWLER, ATCOM, ONESAF, SIMULINK)
  • Experience in an integration and test environment for dynamic systems (CubeSats, Rockets, Robotics)
  • Have an overall cumulative GPA of 3.00/4.0 or higher
  • U.S. Government DoD Top Secret security clearance with relevant special programs access

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
