About the Role

In this role, estimators are responsible for developing complete, accurate, and timely project estimates by reviewing bid documents, specifications, and drawings; evaluating scope, cost and constructability; and communicating clearly with internal teams, trade partners and other project stakeholders. Our estimators are key team members who think beyond traditional preconstruction by helping shape strategy, identify risk, support decision-making, and align cost with the clients goals. Their work is critical to producing successful proposals, building confidence with clients, and positioning Thomas to be successful.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing timely cost, materials and labor estimates for construction projects by analyzing project drawings, specifications and RFPs
  • Understanding contract language and commitments, consumer expectations, and scope of project
  • Consulting with clients, architects, subcontractors, and material suppliers to discuss and formulate estimates, effective cost reductions and constructability issues
  • Distributing and coordinating plans, specifications, information, and policies, ensuring each requirement is managed or covered appropriately
  • Selecting and managing subcontractors throughout the preconstruction process
  • Assessing cost effectiveness of products, projects or services, tracking actual costs relative to bids as a project develops while comparing to historical pricing and / or internal evaluation
  • Development of scope sheets for bid leveling
  • Acting as the liaison between all contracted parties in a project
  • Other duties or responsibilities are assigned


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or Building Construction from an accredited university, preferred; a combination of on-the-job experience and/or formal education may be substituted for the degree
  • 3+ plus years' commercial general contracting estimating experience


Required Skills

  • Strong verbal, written, and organizational skills
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite, project management software (Procore or similar), Bluebeam, Destini Estimator, On Screen Takeoff, scheduling software (Primavera P6 or similar) and Adobe
