About this opportunity

Owen-Ames-Kimball Co. is hiring an experienced Preconstruction Manager based in Fort Myers, FL to lead the planning, estimating, and risk management efforts that set projects up for success. In this role, you'll oversee the preconstruction process from conceptual budgeting through project handoff, while leading a team of estimators and partnering closely with operations, field leadership, design teams, and clients. You'll play a critical role in driving accuracy, consistency, innovation, and collaboration across all preconstruction activities while helping deliver exceptional outcomes for our clients.

What you'll do
  • Lead and mentor estimators and preconstruction team members, fostering accountability, collaboration, and professional growth.
  • Oversee the estimating lifecycle, including conceptual budgets, detailed estimates, cost modeling, bid packages, and subcontractor scopes.
  • Review drawings, specifications, and design documents to ensure scope clarity, accuracy, and project alignment.
  • Conduct constructability reviews and identify risks related to design, logistics, sequencing, procurement, and project execution.
  • Develop risk mitigation strategies and communicate key findings to project teams, leadership, designers, and clients.
  • Ensure consistency in estimating practices, cost controls, preconstruction processes, and subcontractor prequalification efforts.
  • Drive continuous improvement through technology adoption, process enhancements, and performance analysis.
  • Support value engineering, alternate pricing, and strategic recommendations that help clients make informed decisions.
  • Partner with Operations, Project Management, Accounting, Business Development, and field teams to align schedules, budgets, and project goals.
  • Ensure seamless project handoffs by delivering complete, accurate, and actionable preconstruction information.


What we're looking for
  • 15+ years of commercial construction estimating or preconstruction experience, including conceptual and detailed estimating responsibilities, preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Proven leadership experience managing, mentoring, and developing high-performing teams.
  • Strong expertise in estimating, budgeting, cost modeling, constructability reviews, and preconstruction planning.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of construction means and methods, design documentation, subcontractor markets, and project delivery processes.
  • Experience identifying, assessing, and mitigating project risks during pursuit and preconstruction phases.
  • Strong business and financial acumen with the ability to balance project goals, costs, and profitability.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with clients, design partners, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders.
  • Strategic mindset with a passion for process improvement, innovation, and operational excellence.
  • Collaborative leader who takes ownership, drives results, and supports successful project execution from planning through handoff.
