Job Summary

The Pre-Sales Retail Principal Consultant plays a strategic role in supporting Syntax's sales organization by leading solution design, shaping retail-focused proposals, and translating business needs into compelling SAP-based solutions. This role partners closely with sales, delivery, and subject matter experts to develop high-quality pre-sales materials, demonstrate retail and SAP expertise, and help position Syntax as a trusted transformation partner. The ideal candidate brings strong consulting skills, client-facing confidence, and deep knowledge of retail operations, enabling them to influence strategic decisions and support successful client pursuits.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead discovery sessions with prospective retail clients to understand business objectives, operational challenges, and transformation priorities.
  • Design and present SAP solution strategies tailored to retail industry requirements and Syntax capabilities.
  • Collaborate with sales teams to develop proposals, statements of work, estimates, and solution narratives.
  • Support RFP, RFQ, and RFI responses with retail industry insights and solution expertise.
  • Deliver compelling presentations, demos, workshops, and executive-level solution discussions.
  • Partner with delivery, architecture, and functional teams to ensure proposed solutions are feasible, scalable, and aligned with best practices.
  • Translate complex retail and technology concepts into clear, client-friendly messaging.
  • Identify risks, assumptions, dependencies, and differentiators during the pre-sales process.
  • Contribute to account planning, opportunity strategy, and pursuit execution for retail clients.
  • Stay current on SAP solution trends, retail industry developments, and Syntax service offerings.
  • Support internal knowledge sharing and continuous improvement of pre-sales methodologies and assets.


Required Qualifications
  • Extensive experience in SAP consulting, solution architecture, pre-sales, or a related client-facing advisory role.
  • Strong understanding of retail business processes, including merchandising, supply chain, store operations, omnichannel commerce, or customer experience.
  • Proven ability to lead discovery, shape solutions, and influence client decision-making.
  • Experience developing proposals, presentations, and solution artifacts for enterprise clients.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively across sales, delivery, and technical teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to connect technology solutions to business outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple pursuits and priorities simultaneously.
  • Client-focused mindset with a track record of building trusted relationships.
  • Proficiency in English is necessary for client-facing implementation activities across multiple regions.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting large-scale retail transformation, modernization, or cloud migration initiatives.
  • Familiarity with enterprise consulting services across areas such as application management, automation, integration, analytics, or AI-enabled services.
  • Knowledge of retail technology ecosystems, including POS, merchandising, planning, supply chain, or commerce platforms.
  • Experience working with global retail organizations or consumer-facing brands.
  • An appreciation for innovation, continuous improvement, and modern delivery approaches, including automation and AI-enabled services.
  • Ability to contribute to sales enablement content, best practices, and reusable pursuit assets.


Education & Certifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business, Retail Management, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • SAP certifications or other relevant professional certifications are preferred.
  • Additional training in solution consulting, enterprise architecture, or retail industry processes is a plus.
