Full Job Description
The Practice Leader is accountable for developing and leading of the Healthcare Practice's overall strategy specific to revenue generation and driving competitive advantage for the practice's sector within the industry. This role is both strategy and delivery focused; and includes leading the end-to-end market growth strategies of the Healthcare practice that ensures high quality of work, advancing existing client relationships, and constantly expanding the addition of new opportunities. Strong background in the Architecture & Design industry, within one or more of the following project types: Hospital and Medical Centers, Medical Specialty Facilities, Physician(s) Offices, Medical Realty Developers is required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

  • Serve as the Champion for the Practice, internally and externally. Leverage the capabilities of the firm while working in collaboration with other NELSON leadership including Business, Regional, and other Practice / Platform Leaders.
  • Grow the practice in terms of client relationships, revenue and operating profit by developing, communicating and delivering on a Practice Area Strategic Plan based on in depth knowledge of the industry evolution and the opportunities and threats presented by that evolution.
  • Position NELSON as a Thought Leader in the associated practice area or platform by expressing our data, research, insights, and knowledge delivering innovative and sustainable design and serve as an articulate spokesperson to publish, present, and represent NELSON in the local, regional and national marketplace.
  • Create collateral for Account Managers to share with clients to promote services, gain interest and expand our service offerings for our clients in the relevant practice area/platform.
  • Translate industry knowledge to help inform and develop the go-to-market strategy.
  • Create and foster contacts and connections for business development purposes.
  • Promote, develop, and ensure the successful implementation of new services in the practice.
  • Continuously monitor and analyze Nelson's technology investment needs for the practice area/platform.
  • Participate in the RFP assessment/response/pitch process.
  • Perform opportunity analysis and identification or assessment of potential clients.
  • Create and perform ongoing competitor analysis that demonstrates key strengths and weaknesses of industry leading firms servicing this sector.
  • Develop pricing strategies that weigh and balance revenue targets, service capabilities and operational costs assuring profitability.
  • Develop NELSON's service delivery model for the Practice and set routines with the Regional and other Practice Leaders.
  • Develop methods for enhancing and measuring market penetration within different Practice and Service areas. Develop and maintain 1, 3, and 5-year plans for client targets and market positioning.
  • Develop, participate in, and execute succession planning, including the transition of important client relationships.


Required Knowledge and Skill:

  • Experience developing relationships with new and existing clients that would enhance the Firm's competitive advantage and positioning in the Healthcare and/or CCJ&E sector.
  • Experience in the development and direction of small to large-scale projects especially within the Healthcare and/or CCJ&E Practices.
  • Proven track record of success in working in a senior leadership role, including participation in the development of client relationships that lead to new and continuing business.
  • Proven leadership and management skills, including the ability to develop collaborative relationships that lead to successful results, within the firm and externally - with clients, consultants, and other key participants in the design and development process.


Education / Experience:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture, Real Estate, Planning, Interior Design, or Business Administration from an accredited University
  • 15+ years relevant industry experience preferred, or equivalent in appropriate education and experience
  • Strong background in the Architecture & Design industry, within one or more of the following project types: Hospital and Medical Centers, Medical Specialty Facilities, Physician(s) Offices, Medical Realty Developers


Certificates, Licenses or Registrations:

  • NCIDQ, AIA, LEED or WELL preferred
