Job Description

Albemarle Corporation is seeing an Electrical Power Supervisor to support our Industrial manufacturing facility in Pasadena, Texas. This position reports to the site's E&I Maintenance Superintendent and is responsible for providing indirect supervision of the contract labor force and ownership of the site's electrical power systems. The candidate will provide strong leadership to the site's contract power electrician workforce that allows them to perform routine duties, preventive maintenance, and repairs on the site's electrical power distribution equipment. The candidate will support the design, documentation requirements, testing, commissioning, turnover and installation of any planned or new systems installed on the site.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides interface and oversite to the assigned contract employees, on standard shift, to perform maintenance or service functions within established timing, quality, efficiency, and cost guidelines.
  • Emphasis is on specific skilled crafts including electrical distribution and power electricians.
  • Involved in daily routine execution of planned maintenance activities, breakdown repairs, and troubleshooting.
  • Typically requires a high level of technical skill to assist subordinates with troubleshooting and problem resolution
  • Supervises general maintenance activities to ensure that disruption to plant production is avoided / minimized.
  • Determines maintenance priorities based on established plans and makes daily assignments while coordinating with Operations, other maintenance crafts and planning/scheduling of contract personnel.
  • Interprets functional specification requirements and repair reports. Acts as owner by preparing and issuing safe work permits for the areas of the plant electrical power distribution.
  • Monitors quality of maintenance work performed by the power electricians.
  • Monitors working practices and adherence to safety procedures to ensure safety of employees working in the area.
  • Establishes short-term activities directed toward work continuity and balance, such as shift schedules, job priorities, material availability, and preventive inspections.
  • Coordinates and integrates with other plant function areas to ensure support.
  • Selects, organizes, trains, and motivates labor force to ensure consistent quality of work.
  • Recommends improvements in equipment, methods, and procedures.
  • Exercises considerable judgment in establishing job priorities for breakdown repairs and return to service.
  • Responsible to establish and recommend spare parts both on-shelf and out-sourced.
  • Expected to coordinate off-site repairs and verifications.
  • Provide review / feedback on all new project documents relating to electrical power distribution installations.
  • Responsible to gather power consumption data, log data, compile reports and distribute the information plantwide.
  • Works within SAP to execute notifications, maintenance plans and work orders concerning daily activities.
  • Coordinates weekly work schedules with assigned planner / scheduler for the power team.
  • Assists / supports the power engineer with technical knowledge and applications of power distribution.


TECHNICAL EXPECTATIONS

  • Must be familiar with industrial plant electrical power distribution systems
  • Must be knowledgeable in substation transformers, medium / low voltage switchgear, power feeders, rectifiers, load break switches / disconnects, SEL relaying and KWH meters and measurements.
  • Knowledgeable in applications of the NEC 70, NFPA 70E.
  • Ability to train / instruct contract power electricians.
  • Will be the designated owner of the assigned systems assigning support from the power electricians.
  • Support Engineering staff with verification of field installations, implementation of testing procedures, execution of preventative maintenance techniques, recommended application of electrical distribution equipment.
  • Champion safe work practices into the labor force. Lead by example.
  • Partner with local vendors to decrease the turnaround time required for emergency repairs.
  • Provide updates and status of normal and abnormal tasks to keep management informed.
  • Be a primary resource for electrical power support of investigations, corrective actions, and audit items.
  • Proficiency in low voltage (1000 volt and below) electrical applications / installations.
  • Proficiency in medium voltage (above 1000 volt to 15 KV) electrical applications / installations.
  • Ability to recommend improvement ideas surrounding the electrical power components of the plant site.
  • Eagerness to advance the power department's reputation throughout the facility by instilling proper traits in the power electricians when they perform their daily duties. Build good habits and proper representation of our department.


EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum 5 years of direct supervision of Power electricians is required. 10 years is preferred.
  • High School Diploma or GED required. Some college desirable. Documented formal training preferred.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills.
  • Knowledge/experience with skill-sets required to maintain assigned duties.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications (such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays and respond to callouts on a non-routine basis.
  • Physical requirements - Must be able to climb ladders and stairs. Walking, bending, stooping is required.
  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment. Must be able to respond to visual and audible alarms.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to receive verbal and written direction including plant safety rules, policies and procedures and implement without direct supervision.
  • Proficient ability to read, write, speak and communicate in English.
