Employment Type: Full-Time
Industry: Mission-Critical Facilities, Data Centers
Travel: Required as per project needs
Role Summary:
Ehvert Mission Critical, a business unit within Salas O'Brien, is seeking a highly experienced Power Studies Engineer to join our team and support the analysis and design of complex electrical power systems for hyperscale and AI data centers across the United States. This is a remote role within an innovative, international engineering firm recognized for its cutting-edge work in mission-critical infrastructure.
As a Power Studies Engineer, you will play a key role in evaluating electrical system performance, reliability, and resiliency through advanced power system studies and modeling. You will work closely with electrical engineering teams, utilities, and project stakeholders to develop solutions for high-density AI and mission-critical facilities where system reliability and uptime are paramount.
This role offers the opportunity to work on high-impact projects for global clients in the hyperscale data center market while advancing your career in a dynamic and collaborative environment.
What You Will Do:
• Perform power system studies including load flow, short circuit, protective device coordination, arc flash, grounding, power quality, harmonic analysis, transient analysis, and reliability studies.
• Develop and maintain electrical system models using PSCAD, ETAP, SKM, EasyPower, or similar software platforms.
• Perform electromagnetic transient (EMT) studies to evaluate system behavior during switching events, faults, utility disturbances, and large load changes.
• Analyze the impact of high-density AI load characteristics, and mission-critical loads on utility, emergency generators, and facility electrical infrastructure.
• Support utility interconnection studies and coordinate with utility providers on service requirements and system performance.
• Evaluate system reliability, redundancy strategies, contingency scenarios, and power system resiliency.
• Prepare technical reports, engineering calculations, study documentation, and recommendations.
• Collaborate with electrical design teams on medium-voltage systems, substations, standby generation, UPS systems, mechanical system electrical load characteristics, and utility service infrastructure.
• Participate in design coordination meetings with clients, consultants, utilities, and project stakeholders.
• Support commissioning activities and provide technical guidance during project execution.
• Review engineering deliverables for technical accuracy and compliance with applicable standards.
What We Expect:
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized university.
• Minimum of 8-15 years of experience in power systems engineering, utility engineering, substations, transmission and distribution, industrial facilities, renewable energy, or mission-critical infrastructure.
• Experience performing power system studies, including transient, harmonic, and grounding analysis, is required.
• Proficiency with PSCAD is required.
• Experience with ETAP, SKM, EasyPower, PowerFactory, CYME, or similar power system analysis software.
• Strong understanding of electrical power systems, utility infrastructure, substations, protective relaying, and system reliability.
• Experience with utility interconnections and medium-voltage power systems.
• Experience performing underground ductbank ampacity and heat studies (Neher-McGrath methodology), short circuit, load flow, protective device coordination, and arc flash analysis is considered an asset.
• PE license preferred. Additional certifications are a plus.
• Clear understanding of NEC, IEEE 519, IEEE 3000 series, IEEE transformers and switchgear, NFPA, NESC, and utility standards.
• Strong technical writing, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Ability to effectively communicate study results, findings, and recommendations to clients.
• Experience supporting data center, utility, industrial, or large-scale infrastructure projects is highly desirable.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States.
