Recruitment/Posting Title Postdoctoral Associate
Job Category Staff & Executive - Healthcare
Department NJMS - Microbiology
Posting Summary Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate in the Department of Microbiology, Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics within the New Jersey Medical School (NJMS).
Under the direction of the Principal Investigator the Post doctoral Associate will perform research. The Altindis Lab studies viral insulin/IGF-1-like peptides (VILPs) - sequences encoded by viruses that mimic human insulin and IGF-1. We investigate how VILPs interact with and inhibit the human IGF-1 receptor (IGF1R) with high specificity, without affecting the insulin receptor. Using structural biology (cryoEM), proximity labeling (TurboID), phosphoproteomics, and mouse models (including bGHTg acromegaly mice and breast cancer xenografts), we aim to uncover fundamental mechanisms of IGF1R antagonism and develop peptide-based inhibitors for diseases such as cancer and diabetic complications.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Performs independent research involving cell culture, receptor signaling assays, in vivo mouse models, and molecular biology techniques under the PI's guidance.
- Meets with the principal investigator to establish goals and objectives for VILP-related projects
- Communicates regularly with the P.I.
- Maintains detailed and accurate experimental records.
- Supervises and trains subordinate staff.
- Reads current scientific and technical literature relevant to the laboratory's mission.
