Overview

The Portfolio Value Manager oversees the execution and delivery of a portfolio of strategic initiatives and investments aligned with organizational goals. This role connects strategy, intake, discovery, prioritization, governance, and execution to support disciplined, value-based decision-making and end-to-end portfolio transparency.

 

The position ensures initiatives are clearly defined, appropriately prioritized, and governed through structured portfolio management processes that drive measurable outcomes and value realization. The role also supports executive decision-making through data-driven insights, portfolio reporting, strategic recommendations, and continuous improvement of portfolio management practices.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee portfolio operations, including large and complex strategic initiatives, from inception through implementation.
  • Coordinate portfolio adjustments based on changing business demands, delivery requirements, and scope.
  • Prepare initiatives for governance forums by coordinating inputs, ensuring completeness, and communicating status.
  • Support executive decision-making through structured analysis, portfolio insights, and strategic recommendations.
  • Partner with sponsors to refine problem statements and ensure initiatives are prepared for governance discussions.
  • Partner with analytics teams to quantify, track, and validate value realization and targeted business outcomes.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to develop roadmaps, prioritize initiatives, and identify dependencies, risks, issues, and conflicts.
  • Monitor and report portfolio status, milestones, metrics, and progress to key stakeholders and executive leadership.
  • Identify, escalate, and resolve issues associated with portfolio initiatives and projects while ensuring deliverables meet established quality standards and schedules.
  • Review project-level reports and facilitate meetings with project teams to address and resolve issues.
  • Manage and analyze strategic portfolio data to identify risks, inform sequencing and prioritization decisions, and highlight resource constraints.
  • Develop recommendations and insights based on data and performance metrics to support strategic planning, organizational direction, accountability, and business practices.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with business partners, team members, management, key stakeholders, and external contacts.
  • Develop and deliver monthly and quarterly portfolio reporting to provide transparency into performance and value realization.
  • Analyze portfolio data to generate actionable insights and support leadership decisions.
  • Maintain data integrity across portfolio management tools, dashboards, and reporting mechanisms.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Significant experience in portfolio management, program management, strategic planning, business operations, or a related discipline.
  • Experience managing complex portfolios, strategic initiatives, or large-scale programs from planning through implementation.
  • Demonstrated experience with portfolio governance, prioritization, intake, planning, and value realization processes.
  • Experience developing and maintaining portfolio roadmaps, milestones, performance metrics, and executive-level reporting.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience analyzing portfolio data, identifying trends and risks, and translating findings into actionable recommendations.
  • Experience supporting senior leaders and executive stakeholders with data-driven insights and decision-support materials.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and manage dependencies, risks, resource constraints, competing priorities, and delivery issues across multiple initiatives.
  • Experience developing business cases, evaluating initiative value and effort, and supporting investment or prioritization decisions.
  • Strong ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, business leaders, project teams, analytics partners, and other key stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex information clearly to executive and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, critical-thinking, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and initiatives in a complex, changing business environment.
  • Proficiency with portfolio management, reporting, dashboard, and data analysis tools.
  • Knowledge of project, program, and portfolio management methodologies and best practices.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP), Portfolio Management Professional (PfMP), or similar certification preferred.
  • Experience in financial services or another highly regulated industry preferred.
