Platform Engineering & Operations Manager

Technology

BusinessOptix

Role Description:

The Platform Engineering & Operations Manager owns the underlying platform infrastructure and operations layer at BusinessOptix - the Azure-hosted infrastructure, reliability, security and DevOps capabilities on which our SaaS products, our .NET Core Server Apps, and our growing portfolio of AI services run.

This is a hands-on, mid-tier senior engineering role with high autonomy. Acting as second-in-charge to the VP of Technology, the successful candidate will take day-to-day ownership of our multi-region Azure estate, our published reliability and security commitments, our DevOps environment, our customer-facing technical assurance, and our small internal Microsoft 365 estate.

Working closely with Product Development - particularly during the ongoing migration of our Server Apps to .NET Core - and with the AI Engineer (Strategy) on the production operations of our AI workloads, the Platform Engineering & Operations Manager will help shape how our platform scales, how reliably it runs, and how confidently our customers can depend on it.

This role suits someone who thrives in a growth-stage SaaS environment, who can flex across architecture, operations, security, developer and AI enablement, and internal IT, and who is looking to build and lead an infrastructure and platform team as the company scales.

Responsibilities:
  • Take day-to-day ownership of the BusinessOptix multi-region Azure estate (UK, EU, US, AUS, plus Azure US Gov where required), including capacity, cost, performance and security baselines across production and non-production environments.
  • Deliver against the platform's published SLAs (target 99.95% availability, with documented RPO/RTO commitments) - owning incident response, observability, monitoring, post-incident reviews and root cause analysis.
  • Lead the maintenance, testing and continuous improvement of the Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery policy to reflect the matured Azure estate.
  • Execute the relevant day-to-day operations of our ISO 27001-aligned ISMS - including internal and external assurance testing, supporting customer security questionnaire responses, the IT Supplier Management Process, and audit preparation for surveillance and recertification cycles.
  • Chair the BusinessOptix Cybersecurity Council, owning operations and governance.
  • Own the Azure DevOps environment in collaboration with the Product Development team - pipelines, build/release tooling, deployment automation - and drive developer enablement so the build, deploy and release path is frictionless.
  • Partner with the Product Development team to support the migration of customer tenants to the .NET Core Server Apps, including cutover tooling, rollback paths and validation.
  • Provide the platform and infrastructure foundation on which the AI Engineer (Strategy) designs, builds and runs production AI pipelines - Azure AI Foundry, Assistants APIs, supporting services such as Xano and Unstructured.io, and the wider AI surface as the AI footprint grows.
  • Administer the BusinessOptix Microsoft 365 environment (currently a small, low-complexity estate) - user, license, identity and Intune/MDM management, plus pragmatic Tier 2 internal IT support.
  • Act as custodian of the BusinessOptix Technical Pack and supporting compliance documentation.
  • Represent the technology function in customer architecture and security conversations and communicate technical decisions and risks clearly to non-technical and senior stakeholders.
  • Mentor future junior technology hires, build runbooks, playbooks and operational rituals that a growing team will inherit, and grow into formal line management of an infrastructure and platform team.
  • Contribute to architectural decisions, engineering standards, and best practices across the platform and its operations.
  • Design and execute the longer-term direction for Platform Engineering, Cloud Operations and Internal IT (including potential development of a dedicated team or outsourcing) as the company grows.

In the course of business, other duties will be assigned to this position. This job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee. Duties, responsibilities and activities may change or new ones may be assigned at any time with or without notice.

Teams and Persons Primarily Supported

The work of the Platform Engineering & Operations Manager primarily supports the Product Development team, the AI Engineer (Strategy), our internal users on IT and Microsoft 365 matters, and the Sales and Customer Success teams on technical assurance and customer platform questions.

Qualifications:

The following experience and skills are preferred.
  • Minimum 5-7 years' experience in cloud platform, infrastructure, DevOps or related production engineering roles, including time in a SaaS environment.
  • Demonstrated ownership of production Azure environments at scale, including responsibility for SLAs.
  • Strong working knowledge of Azure IaaS components: Virtual Machines, Azure SQL, Storage, VNet, NSG, WAF, and Azure DevOps - including cost governance, security posture, and related operational capabilities.
  • Working familiarity with Azure AI services (Azure AI Foundry, Azure AI Assistants API and related) and the ability to operationalize AI workloads in production.
  • Hands-on experience supporting .NET application stacks, particularly modern .NET / .NET Core.
  • Experience with reliability operations: SLA delivery, incident management, observability, post-incident analysis and DR.
  • Familiarity with ISO 27001 or comparable ISMS frameworks.
  • Practical Microsoft 365 administration experience (small estate; not a primary focus of the role).
  • Infrastructure-as-code experience (Bicep, Terraform, or ARM).
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across technical, non-technical and senior stakeholder audiences, including external customers.
  • Ability to balance speed of delivery with engineering quality and operational reliability.
  • Relevant Azure certifications would be advantageous.
  • Comfort operating in a startup or growth-stage culture with broad scope, a degree of ambiguity, and an appetite to grow into team leadership over time.
