Position Description

The Plant Superintendent has direct responsibility and leadership for overall operations for daily production operations. Responsible for collaborating with the Site Leader to set vision, implementing 80/20 and Lean Simplification to ensure a safe work environment, maximizing profitable growth through 80/20, driving quality improvements, providing differentiated customer service, developing a technically qualified work force, optimizing operating costs, inventories and lead times through continuous improvements.

This role will oversee day-to-day activities to meet daily, monthly, quarterly and annual operating plans goals. This includes developing long and short range plans to assure the manufacturing areas are aligned with strategies using 80/20 and lean principles as the basis for continuous improvement. Lastly, this positions assures that manufacturing resources are properly managed to meet customer needs in a cost effective manner.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership:
  • Promote, utilize and drive the DMS ( Daily Management System - Tier meetings, GEMBA walks, loss tracking, day by hour tracking, etc.) to ensure an efficient and effective operating systems is in place.
  • Provide development and guidance to the hourly and salaried workforce through proper coaching, partnering and relationship building.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of Operation (Shift) Supervisors and skills labor.
  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and teamwork.


Health & Safety Compliance:
  • Promote effective Health, Safety and Environmental programs and practices, ensuring that high standards of site safety are established and followed by all associates in the operation
  • Drive process standardization with respect to EHS by monitoring all injuries, near misses, property damage etc., with robust investigative activities and partnership with the EHS Manager onsite driven through the use of the Daily Management System
  • Enforce safety protocols and ensure compliance with OSHA and company safety standards.
  • Participate, delegate and hold accountable all production supervision and team leaders to conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments as part of the DMS.


Production Management:
  • Responsible for the execution of production plans to meet the required schedule at a satisfactory cost level (includes cost center, budget, manpower plans, systems developments, and asset management).
  • Responsible for appropriate personnel planning during peak and non-peak operations, to balance customer need and cost goals.
  • Provide ongoing analysis of manufacturing area operating results and corrective action to meet or exceed planned performance levels of quality, expense, efficiency and inventory control
  • Collaborate with engineering and design teams to align production capabilities with product specifications.
  • Implement and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) to assess operational efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Support the development and implementation of the capital plan to provide adequate capacity, aggressive quality improvement, and strong cost and asset control.


Quality Assurance:
  • Drive accountability in the daily operations through process audits to maintain high standards of product quality.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality and reduce waste.


Process Improvement:
  • Responsible for the design and implementation of plant production systems, policies and procedures, and methods as required to meet short/long term objectives.
  • Responsible for the development of improved methods, layouts, equipment, techniques and processes to maintain and improve the competitive nature of the manufacturing area.
  • Identify and implement lean manufacturing techniques to optimize production workflows.
  • Utilize 80/20, Lean, or similar methodologies to streamline operations and reduce costs.


Inventory and Supply Chain Management
  • Through the use of visual management techniques, maintain and manage inventory levels of materials and components to avoid production delays on the shop floor.
  • Drive consistent output, robust inventory management techniques and process adherence to ensure that inventory accuracy and consumption are maintained daily


Required Education & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment preferable in automotive production.
  • Proven leadership experience managing fabrication or production teams.
  • Strong knowledge of 80/20, lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, 5S, or other process improvement methodologies.
