Full Job Description
Position Summary

Leads and manages a Reliability Engineering team in one or more of Xcel Energy's power generating facilities. Provides technical expertise, knowledge, and leadership to plant operations and maintenance on emergent equipment needs. Ensures technical issues/problems are resolved in a timely manner. Implements the Long-Term Asset Maintenance (LTAM) strategy at assigned sites. Monitors and supports plant compliance of NERC reliability standard requirements. Maintains control of the site design basis and improvements in plant equipment/systems to maximize value creation. Is accountable for equipment, system, and plant performance results.

Responsible for improving system and asset reliability by establishing maintenance strategies, leveraging predictive and condition-based maintenance, leading failure analytics, and prioritizing capital requests to drive continuous improvement across the plant site.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Manages the engineering team that provides emergent and routine trouble-shooting support for plant technical needs. Oversees engineers performing diagnostics, equipment monitoring, problem-solving, and equipment inspections. Ensures technical issues/problems are resolved in a timely, efficient, cost-effective manner utilizing available resources. Drives standardization at each site and ensures lessons learned are shared/deployed within Energy Supply. Maximizes value creation by identifying and deploying improvement initiatives to decrease the total cost of energy. Provides unit specific input into the unit overhaul scope. Partners with Projects on overhaul scope changes and overhaul project lead support.
  • Provides input on daily/weekly work priorities at assigned sites to ensure the LTAM strategies are implemented effectively. Ensures fuel type engineering strategies are implemented in daily work. Translate master maintenance strategies into site-specific maintenance strategies and execution plans.
  • Identifies and initiates project requests that are aligned with the Business Unit asset strategy. Partners with other Energy Supply teams to ensure the most effective implementation of approved projects. Ensures plant design basis is controlled, and design basis documentation is maintained. Identify and manage single points of failure and high-impact failures to improve overall system resiliency.
  • Holds direct reports accountable to the work management process. Clearly communicates performance expectations and work assignment priorities. Develops a culture of high performance, personal accountability, and continuous improvement. Hires, trains, develops, coaches, and manages performance of staff to ensure personnel are adequately trained to work safely and effectively. Serves as budget lead for department at assigned sites
  • Lead root cause analysis (RCA) and sharing to capture best practices and prevent recurrence. Ensures RCA results are shared with the system teams, promoting lessons learned and best practice sharing.
  • Monitors and supports plant compliance of NERC reliability standard requirements. Anticipates and identifies compliance gaps.
  • Identify and manage single points of failure and high-impact failures to improve overall system resiliency.


Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering is required.
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in power plant engineering, original equipment manufacturing (OEM), or equivalent experience in an industrial/manufacturing environment.
  • Technical knowledge in power plant engineering, design, and technical support is desired.
  • Previous management experience is desired.
  • Selection process may include testing and/or assessment.


Preferred Characteristics
  • PE certification or Certified reliability leader certifications or PMP certification
  • ABET Accreditation on bachelor's degree or higher


Non-Bargaining

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $112,200.00 to $159,400.00 per year
