Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Five (5) years of experience in construction industry design, plan review, and inspection field duties
  • Must possess a valid state driver's license and obtain a valid Florida driver's license within thirty (30) days of hire or promotion.
  • Plans Examiner II ($67,308.80 Min - $105,372.80 Max) - One (1) Plans Examiner license issued by the Department of Business and Professional Regulations and one (1) Plans Examiner or Building Inspector license issued by the Department of Business and Professional Regulations, any discipline the area of which is determined by business need.
  • Plans Examiner III ($70,699.20 Min - $110,635.20 Max) - One (1) Plans Examiner license issued by the Department of Business and Professional Regulations and two (2) or more Plans Examiner or Building Inspector licenses issued by the Department of Business and Professional Regulations, any discipline the area of which is determined by business need

Preferred Qualifications
  • Current State of Florida Mechanical Inspector, Mechanical Plans Examiner, Plumbing Inspector, or Plumbing Plans Examiner certification; or equivalent ICC certification with the ability to obtain Florida certification through reciprocity preferred.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience actively performing plumbing and/or mechanical inspections and/or plan review services for a local jurisdiction, private provider, or similar code enforcement entity preferred.
  • Dual certification in both the plumbing and mechanical disciplines preferred.

Key Responsibilities
  • Reviews residential, commercial, and miscellaneous construction and project plans for the Department of Community Development.
  • Position provides support for Building or Development Services and maintains necessary certifications according to division of assignment.
  • Employees in this class are responsible for ensuring compliance with established standard building, fire and/or zoning codes and regulations.
  • Incumbents possess a broad background in general construction practices that provides solid knowledge of inspecting structures, reviewing plans, and interpreting various forms of site documentation, i.e., architectural drawings, maps, schematics, engineering designs.
  • Position is responsible for review and approval/denial of various permits, and the accurate recording of all approved permits.
