SUMMARY OF POSITION
LOCATION: City of Pasco, WA - (On-site)

SALARY: $49.13 - $58.98 Hourly / $102,190.40 - $122,678.40 Annually

JOB TYPE: Regular / Full-Time

WORK SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday, 8am-5pm

THE ROLE:

As a Plans Examiner, you will play a critical role in supporting safe, high-quality development within the City of Pasco by reviewing complex commercial and residential construction plans for compliance with applicable building, fire, plumbing, mechanical, energy, and state-adopted codes. This position reviews plans for structural and non-structural integrity prior to permit issuance, provides code interpretation, and works closely with internal departments, contractors, architects, engineers, and the public throughout the permitting and construction process.

The ideal candidate will have experience in plans examining, permitting, building inspection, and/or building construction, along with strong attention to detail, excellent customer service skills, and the ability to interpret and apply complex codes, ordinances, and regulations. This role requires sound judgment, clear communication, and the ability to collaborate with Planning, Public Works, Engineering, Building, and other internal and external partners to help resolve code-related questions and support timely project review.
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (Any equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the job.):
  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Three (3) years of experience in plans examining, permitting, or building inspection, including one (1) year of experience in building construction.
  • ICC or similar certification as a Plans Examiner.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Previous experience in local government.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or Architecture or closely related field, preferred.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.

  • In addition to DRS, employees may also contribute to a 457 Deferred Compensation Plan, that offers a pre-tax contribution of 4% from the City

SAFETY/WORK CONDITIONS:
  • Duties are performed in an office environment while stationed at a desk.
  • Physical: Frequently construction plans and other equipment weighing up to 20 pounds throughout the office and between meetings.
  • Travel to various work locations as needed to perform assigned duties.
