General Information

Majestic mountains, the rugged West Coast Trail, serene lakes, and one of the world’s tallest free-standing timber rail trestles all lie in the picturesque Cowichan Valley Regional District (CVRD). Located on Vancouver Island, the CVRD provides a wide range of local government services to a population of 80,000 within its 4 distinct municipalities and 9 electoral areas. Just 50 km north of Victoria and 30 km south of Nanaimo, the Cowichan Valley offers a warm climate and numerous parks, recreational, cultural, and social opportunities.

We are seeking to add to our team, a professional with excellent leadership qualities and strong planning skills.

Reporting to the Manager, Community Planning or Development Services, the Planning Coordinator supports the Regional District’s current and long-range planning operations. This exempt position works in an administrative, technical and management capacity in carrying out the supervision of staff, programs and services and acts as a liaison and resource between the Land Use Services Department and other CVRD divisions, and with external agencies and organizations. The immediate need is for a Planning Coordinator in the Development Services Division, supporting customer service and development applications processes.

Qualifications
  • University graduation in a related field plus a graduate degree in Community and Regional Planning or related field
  • Full membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners and Planning Institute of BC Registered Professional Planner Certification
  • A minimum of five years of related experience, preferably in a BC local government setting
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience with staff mentoring, supervision, training and performance management
  • IAP2 certification is considered an asset
  • PMP designation is considered an asset
  • A valid Class 5 BC Driver's Licence

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

Hours of Work

This regular-full time exempt position works 35 hours per week (Monday 6 Friday, 8:30-4:30) and is eligible for flex time. Some evening and weekend work may be required. This position works from the CVRD's main office in Duncan, BC, and at this time, is eligible to be part of the Work From Home program, potentially working a hybrid in-office / remote schedule after a successful in-office training period.

Salary

The CVRD offers a competitive salary range of $111,765.09 to $130,660.09 per year (2026 rate), commensurate with experience, plus a comprehensive benefits package including extended health, dental, and insurance benefits, pension, and paid vacation.
