Your Opportunity:

Come join the dynamic Calgary Rural Rehabilitation team! This temporary Full-time (20 months) opportunity will be based out of Strathmore District Health Services and supports Physiotherapy services for Home Care, Outpatient, and Acute Care services in Strathmore and surrounding areas (Wheatland county). The rehab team in Strathmore consists of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Speech Language Pathologist, Respiratory Therapist, Therapy Assistants, and admin support. The hospital houses 27 Acute Care beds, an Emergency Care department, and a variety of outpatient clinics. Strathmore is a vibrant town with a population of about 14,000 located approximately 50 km east of Calgary. Reporting to the Rural Allied Health Manager (Adults) the Physiotherapist will work with our existing rehabilitation team to provide integrated rehabilitation services across the continuum of health services. In addition to performing your clinical roles you will be expected to foster effective relationships within the site and across our rehabilitation teams, and at times participate in quality improvement and program development initiatives within the Rural Calgary zone. This position requires a valid driver's license and a reliable vehicle.

Description:

As the Physiotherapist I (PT), you will provide therapeutic interventions to enable clients to achieve optimum physical function and independence in development, disease, disability, chronic conditions, illness and functional decline. You will provide intervention (i.e. prevention, triage, screening, assessment, diagnosis, goal setting, treatment, management, education, consultation, fostering resourcefulness, case management, referral and transition support to individuals, groups, populations and communities. You will include clients and families as integral members of the health care team, encouraging their active participation in all aspects of care. The PT collaborates with patient(s) and families in determining, implementing and evaluating appropriate rehabilitation strategies. You will participate in a variety of interprofessional teams to build awareness, enrich supports and engage in quality improvement; partnering with healthcare providers, patients, families and other stakeholders to advance services for their clients. You will contribute to quality improvement and their professional community; participates in peer mentoring; and supervises students. You may provide clinical supervision to Therapy Assistants, Therapy Aides and Provisional Physiotherapists.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Physiotherapy from an accredited university program. Current registration with the College of Physiotherapists of Alberta.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Basic Cardiac Life Support- Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP) required (or to be obtained within 2 months from start date). A vehicle in good working order and a valid driver's license. At least 1 year experience (minimum 0.5 FTE) working in an Acute Care or home care environment. AADL authorizer status for small equipment. Excellent computer, interpersonal, and communication skills are required. Strong assessment, conflict resolution and time management skills are required. Proven ability to provide exceptional clinical care within a continually changing healthcare environment. Physically able to perform all assigned tasks. You will be responsible to transfer / handling patients, carry and move equipment (lifting, lowering, carrying, pushing and pulling upwards to 50 Ibs) as a regular part of the job.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience working with a senior population preferred. Previous experience assessing environmental safety and equipment (e.g. grab bars).
