Physician Assistant - Surgery

Saint Francis Hospital - Evanston, IL

Responsibilities

Position Summary:

As a Surgical Physician Assistant, you will work closely with our experienced surgeons to deliver comprehensive perioperative care. This role offers variety across general surgery, trauma, and specialty procedures in a supportive teaching environment. You'll play a key role in patient management from pre-op through post-op, helping drive efficient, high-quality surgical services.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist surgeons in the operating room with a wide range of procedures, including first-assist duties, retraction, suturing, and would closure.
  • Conduct preoperative evaluations evaluations, including history and physical exams, diagnostic test ordering and interpretation, and patient optimization.
  • Provide postoperative care, including rounding, managing complications, pain control, and discharge planning.
  • Perform bedside procedures such as central lines, chest tubes, and wound management as needed.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (surgeons, nurses, residents, and specialists) to ensure coordinated, patient-centered care.
  • Educate patients and families on surgical procedures, risks, recovery expectations, and follow-up care.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, trauma response, and on-call coverage as scheduled.

The exact starting compensation to be offered will be determined at the time of selecting an applicant for hire, in which a wide range of factors will be considered, including but not limited to, skillset, years of applicable experience, education, credentials and licensure.
