Full Job Description
GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
The physician's assistant is responsible for providing medical care as delegated by the physician. Provides primary health care and performs selective medical services under the direction of the practice physician(s).

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Reports to the Physician(s).

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
None.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Obtains complete medical history and physical data on patients. Reviews patient records.
  2. Assesses patient health status including state of wellness, compliance with care plan and determines appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
  3. Provides acute and chronic patient care including taking histories, doing physicals, monitoring therapies, minor office surgical procedures. Administers injections, immunizations and oral medications. Prescribes medications.
  4. Interprets and integrates data to determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic plan utilizing principles of prevention.
  5. Orders appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures.
  6. Responds to emergencies including use of CPR/ACLS.
  7. Documents patient information and care provided in patient records and maintains department statistics. Uses computer/EMR system to access/enter needed data.
  8. Educates patient and families as appropriate regarding medications and treatment instructions. Provides continuity of care.
  9. Consults with other staff as necessary.
  10. Maintains patient confidentiality.
  11. Interviews and advises patients regarding health and illness prevention. Recommends community resources to meet patient and family needs.
  12. Performs independent evaluations and treatment procedures in emergency situations.
  13. Provides monitoring and continuity of care between physician visits.
  14. Attends required meetings and participates in committees as requested.
  15. Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations.
  16. Performs work as related.

EDUCATION:
BA/BS, MS preferred. Graduate of AMA accredited Physician Assistant program.

EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of one-year experience as Physician Assistant, preferably in office/clinic setting.

REQUIREMENTS:
Current Ohio state PA license, certified by National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistant. Current CPR certification.

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:

KNOWLEDGE:
  1. Knowledge of professional clinical theory, practices and regulations to give and evaluate patient care.
  2. Knowledge of how to use medical equipment and instruments to administer patience care.
  3. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish/maintain a safe work environment.

SKILLS:
  1. Skills in applying and modifying the principles, methods and techniques of professional clinical to provide ongoing patient care.
  2. Skill in taking medical histories to assess medical condition and interpret findings.

ABILITIES:
  1. Ability to maintain quality control standards.
  2. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  3. Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
  4. Ability to communicate clearly and establish/maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:
Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighting up to 10 pounds. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires working under stress in emergency situations and irregular hours.

ENVIORNMENT/WORKING CONDITIONS:
Combination of exam rooms and medical offices. Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment.
