Full Job Description
Responsibilities*

Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Performs image guided procedures such as vascular access, tube changes, PICC lines, and other procedures under the direction of the interventional radiologist.
  • Documents procedures within the electronic medical record and provides pre and post-procedure orders according to the established protocols.
  • Enters information into procedural databases including complications.
  • Evaluates and triages consult requests and direct orders for procedures in collaboration with the Interventional Radiologist or Neurodiagnostic Radiologist.
  • Responds to inpatient consult requests and performs consults to include documented pre-procedure case review, patient evaluations and pre-procedure order entry.
  • Serves as primary contact and resource for pre-procedure and patient recovery areas, anesthesia and referring services.
  • Communicates plan of care with referring services.
  • Partners with the Interventional Radiologist or Neurodiagnostic Radiologist to prioritize, coordinate and direct procedure activity to achieve patient care needs while maximizing safety, quality and efficiency.
  • Communicates and problem-solves during coordination of procedural activity obtaining, assigning, and adjusting resources throughout the day including procedure rooms, staff, anesthesia and support services.
  • Communicates with the Interventional Radiology support personnel including the nurses, IR technologists, schedulers and all other stakeholders to coordinate all required resources.
  • Interfaces with the Anesthesia service to prioritize, plan and direct patient care activity.
  • Responds to patient and service communications via phone, email and electronic medical record messaging.
  • Provides patient education.
  • Supports the education mission by working closely with students, Radiology residents and fellows.
  • May serve as preceptor and mentor for APP students.
  • May participate in and leads quality improvement and patient safety efforts across the division, department and health system.
  • May participate in research projects and support the research mission, assisting with clinical research if applicable, within the scope of the clinical practice.
  • Provides PA coverage across all adult unit assignments to meet patient care needs

  • Excellent fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination
  • Individual must exhibit a professional and positive image when interacting with patients, faculty and staff.
  • Candidate must also adhere to a high standard of personal and professional conduct; possess excellent customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills; and demonstrated ability to interact with a diverse population.
  • Candidate must be able to work effectively with a multidisciplinary team, handling multiple responsibilities in a fast past environment.
  • In addition, candidate must demonstrate problem solving skills, proficient computer and keyboarding skills, and excellent attendance.

Required Qualifications*
  • Satisfactory completion of a Physician Assistant program accredited by Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or one of its predecessor agencies, CAHEA or CAAHEP
  • Certification by the National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
  • Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Michigan
  • Current DEA and Controlled Substance license or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
  • Maintenance of BLS and ACLS certification required.
  • 1 year of PA experience in primary role as a proceduralist OR 1 year of PA experience primary role surgical operating room

Desired Qualifications*
  • Experience in vascular access is highly desirable
  • Interventional Radiology experience as a physician assistant
  • Radiology experience including interpretation of radiographs, US, CT, and MR examinations, and understanding of these imaging technologies
  • Training in radiation safety and radiation biology
  • Membership in the American Academy of Physician Assistants Membership in the State chapter of the Michigan Academy of Physician Assistants
  • Satisfactory completion of a Master of Science physician assistant program accredited by the American Medical Association
  • Computer knowledge in MS Word, Excel, Access and other medical-based programs
  • Familiarity with Epic based EMR
