Staff Position Description

Position Title: Oncology Physician Assistant Position Code: PA-6180

Department: Cancer Center Safety Sensitive: YES

Reports to: Director, Cancer Center Administration Exempt Status: YES

Position Purpose:

All KHI employees are expected to perform their respective tasks and duties in such a way that supports KHI's vision of providing the region's best clinical care and patient service through an environment that fosters respect for others and pride in performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Examines patients and establishes diagnoses by patient history, physical examination, and other criteria in both the inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Provides appropriate patient instruction and/or consultation with family or significant other, as needed.
  • Orders, performs, and interprets laboratory, radiographic, and other diagnostic tests.
  • Identifies, develops, implements, and evaluates a patient centered plan of care to promote, maintain and restore health.
  • Offers counseling and education to meet patient needs.
  • Prescribes, dispenses, and administers medication according to applicable Federal and State statutes, rules, and regulations.
  • Refers and consults with appropriate health care providers.
  • Complies with all regulatory, organizational, and departmental statutes, policies, and procedures.
  • Documents patient charts accurately and timely.
  • Attends and actively participates in committees, staff meetings, and marketing activities.
  • Have a caring, positive attitude.
  • Delegates appropriately to support staff.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others.
  • Ability to maintain attention to detail.


Clinic Specific Responsibilities:
  • Develops and maintains oncology and hematology knowledge to treat patients safely and accurately with the most current oncology/hematology evidenced-based practices.
  • Collaborates well with all members of oncology team.

Certification:

Clinic Specific Requirements:

Education:
  • 12 oncology-related CMEs required each calendar year
  • Initial Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative Program training to be completed within the first 6 months of hire and ongoing training, as required, to meet clinical trials requirements


Preferences

Experience:
  • Minimum of two years of experience in oncology/hematology practice

Exposure Categories:
  • Category I: Expected duties have routine potential for exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues
  • Other potential hazard(s): possible exposure to chemical, biological, and radioactive substances; possible exposure to hostile individuals


Work Requirements
  • Must be capable of consistently reaching and or working above and below shoulder level
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to walk or being on feet 80% of the time per day with frequent bending, squatting, kneeling, standing
  • Ability to sit at computer terminal at least 20% of the time per day
  • Ability to communicate using telephone
