SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Surgical Services Advanced Practice Provider (APP) role offers the opportunity to practice in a fast-paced surgical environment where no two days are the same. APPs in this role are trusted members of the surgical team, using advanced clinical judgment, procedural skills, and independent decision-making to care for complex patients across the perioperative and inpatient continuum. The position is well suited for clinicians who thrive in dynamic environments, value autonomy and teamwork, and are looking for a role that offers broad clinical exposure, meaningful responsibility, and continued professional growth.

The Surgical Services APP functions as an integral member of the surgical care team, providing comprehensive daytime and overnight clinical support across the perioperative and inpatient continuum. The position is designed to ensure consistent and reliable APP coverage for Surgical Services, including Acute Care Surgery (ACS), General Surgery, and the surgical subspecialties.

Core daytime responsibilities include inpatient rounding, surgical first assistance, management of ACS consultations, preoperative and postoperative care, discharge planning, and coordination of care across multidisciplinary teams. The APP works collaboratively with surgeons, nursing, case management, and ancillary services to facilitate timely clinical decision-making, optimize patient throughput, and promote continuity of care throughout the surgical hospitalization.

During overnight hours, the APP provides cross-coverage for surgical services, responding to urgent and emergent inpatient concerns, postoperative clinical issues, new surgical needs, and emergent operating room requirements within the scope of the role. This coverage model supports 24/7 access to APP-level surgical care, provides timely evaluation and management of hospitalized surgical patients, supports surgeon availability for operative and complex clinical responsibilities, and strengthens continuity and coordination of care across Surgical Services.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):

  • Graduate of an AMA approved Physician Assistant Program or baccalaureate or higher degree program that meets licensure requirements in the State of employment
  • National Certification in State of employment or in another State with reciprocity and licensure to practice in the State of employment
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
