Position DescriptionThe TTUHSC Rural Medicine Physician Assistant (PA) Fellow participates in a structured, 12-month postgraduate fellowship focused on advanced clinical practice in rural and underserved communities. The Fellow is based at the Preventative Care Health Services (PCHS) federally qualified health center in Alpine, Texas, with clinical experiences throughout the Trans-Pecos region and potential rotations at a critical access hospital. The fellowship combines supervised patient care, procedural training, structured didactics, scholarly activity, and community-based rural medicine experiences.
Major/Essential Functions• Provide evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, follow-up, preventive care, and patient education within the physician assistant's scope of practice and assigned clinical privileges.
• Provide care at the Alpine clinical site and affiliated rural and telehealth sites throughout the Trans-Pecos region.
• Participate in ambulatory and hospital-based rural medicine experiences, including exposure to acute care, emergency care, inpatient care, women's health, and procedural medicine.
• Develop competence in common rural ambulatory and hospital procedures appropriate to the Fellow's training, supervision, and clinical privileges.
• Participate in rural house calls and community-based clinical experiences.
• Participate in sports medicine activities involving local high school and university athletic programs.
• Participate in structured didactics, mentoring, clinical supervision, and professional development activities.
• Complete an approved scholarly product, which may include a quality-improvement project, grant application, research paper, or scholarly manuscript.
• Collaborate effectively with physicians, physician assistants, resident physicians, students, and other members of the health care team.
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation and comply with institutional, regulatory, credentialing, and patient-safety requirements.
Required Qualifications- Graduation from an ARC-PA-accredited PA program.
- Master's degree in PA studies or related discipline.
- Current NCCPA certification or eligibility for certification within required timelines.
- Current Texas PA license or eligibility for licensure before beginning clinical practice.
- Eligibility for credentialing and clinical privileges at participating clinical sites.
- Eligibility for required prescriptive authority and registrations.
- Current Basic Life Support certification.
- Ability to travel regularly to rural clinical sites and participate in clinical activities that may occur outside traditional business hours.
Preferred Qualifications- Previous rural, underserved, or community-based experience.
- Ability to communicate in Spanish.
