Job Summary

We are seeking a Physician Assistant - Duke Orthopedics Hand & Upper Extremity forcliniclocations in Durham, Morrisville, and Cary NC to provide direct patient care services in collaboration with the attending physician for patients requiring Hand and Upper Extremity as well as general orthopedic care. The APP will augment a physician's ability to provide medical services to patients in the clinic.

Primary hours will be Monday through Friday with hours flexible to meet the needs of the patients.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide care for patients needing Hand and Upper Extremity as well as general orthopedic care by assisting the physician in clinic as well as responsible and accountable for independent patient load/clinic.
  • Coordinate patient care including triage, physical exams, collecting and documenting data, conducting diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and scheduling laboratory studies. May be involved in assisting with peri-operative workflow including scheduling, pre-ops, and post-op follow-up, diagnostic procedures and professional consultations, and prescribing appropriate interventions and medications.
  • Communicate verbally and in writing all pertinent patient information to supervising physician, nursing staff, patient resource manager, home health agency, and other relevant healthcare providers.
  • Provide timely documentation in the electronic medical record of all relevant data including results of diagnostic tests; laboratory results; patients' condition and response to therapies/interventions; communications with physician colleagues.
  • Respond to patient inquiries and concerns via telephone or EPIC MyChart messages and be accessible to consult with supervising physician as needed.
  • Analyze clinical practice patterns so as to provide the best medical care and to increase effectiveness and efficiency.


Experience

Prefer Orthopedics work experience as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant. If a new graduate, Orthopedics clinical rotations during your education program.

Job Hours

Primary hours will be Monday through Friday with hours flexible to meet the needs of the patients.

Job Eligibility Requirements

Education
  • Physician Assistants: Work requires completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program. A Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred.


Certification
  • BLS required.


License
  • Physician Assistants: Must be licensed in the state of NC and be certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
  • DEA license required.
