• PHYSICIAN ADVISOR, KNOWLEDGE TRANSLATION (BILINGUAL PREFERRED)

*Primary Remote Job. You can work from a home-based office the majority of time within the provinces of Ontario and Québec, with regular on-site presence at the Ottawa CMPA office (up to 1-2 days per week).

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Physician Advisor, Knowledge Translation in Safe Medical Care Insights & Thought Leadership contributes to leading-edge education for physicians and other members of medical teams across Canada to promote the provision of safe medical care. This includes developing and evaluating educational curriculum; delivering educational presentations across Canada in both virtual and in-person formats; and development of asynchronous learning products such as podcasts, electronic learning activities and recorded presentations. There are also opportunities for authoring publications, including articles for the CMPA ebulletins and submissions for peer reviewed medical journals.

The Physician Advisor participates in effective team, departmental and cross-departmental activities and communications. The role works to promote a member-focused, professional and ethical culture and supportive work environment at the CMPA.

POSITION ACTIVITIES

Provide safe medical care and medico-legal education across Canada to groups of members and as appropriate to other health professionals

• Collaborate to create, update and evaluate multimedia presentations and education assets/materials
• Seek additional knowledge from the published medical literature, relevant sources and stakeholders
• Deliver synchronous education virtually or in-person to audiences of varying sizes and specialties
• Act as a professional, credible and effective ambassador of the CMPA
• Conduct pre-session needs assessments to plan impactful education as well as post-session evaluations to assess session impact and effectiveness
• Receive and respond openly to coaching, mentoring and performance feedback from peers and management

Develop content for various publication channels

• Author or support the authoring of educational articles and materials on a variety of educational and risk management-related topics for CMPA communication channels, such as podcasts, electronic learning activities on the website, CMPA ebulletins, the CMPA Good Practices Guidance, and peer-reviewed medical journals and other publications

Contribute to the development of the CMPA Continuing Professional Development programming

• Assist in the development of the CMPA education curriculum based on the Association's strategic goals, using best practices in adult learning, including the use of synchronous, asynchronous, and blended learning models appropriate to the learning needs of members across the continuum of practice
• Assist in the development and implementation of an evaluation framework for educational programs and other products and services to assess their impact and effectiveness

Collaborate with the Department of Medico-Legal Services

• Participate in suitable orientation and training
• Seek additional support and guidance as required to provide accurate and effective one-to-one advice to members
• Receive and respond openly to coaching, mentoring and performance feedback from Senior Physician Advisors in Medico-legal Services

Participate in other related services and work as required

• Participation in departmental and interdepartmental committees or working groups as required
• Keep abreast of Association policies and practices, and developments in risk management, patient safety and the medical profession on the Canadian and international stages to maintain the highest standard in the provision of up-to-date and meaningful education and advice:
• Regularly communicate and collaborate with Physician Advisors in Medico-legal Services and others at the CMPA to understand medico-legal and member trends and to foster collaborative work relationships
• Participate in identifying and implementing improvements to processes and practices
• Perform other related tasks as assigned by CMPA leadership

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• License to practice medicine in Canada and licensing with a national regulatory body must be in good standing
• A minimum of 10 years clinical experience
• Candidates with experience in obstetrics, anaesthesiology, or surgery are highly desired.
• Sound knowledge of patient safety, and leading-edge adult learning pedagogy

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English are mandatory
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in French are strongly preferred

• Starting salary for the Physician Advisor role is $243,000 - classified as a level P1
• Location: Hybrid - Primary Remote Job. You can work from a home-based office the majority of time within the provinces of Ontario and Québec, with regular on-site presence at the CMPA office (up to 1-2 days per week). If you prefer to work in an office setting as your primary workspace, you can choose to work out of the CMPA's office located in Ottawa, Ontario near the beautiful Dow's Lake.
• The position requires availability for travel within Canada and the willingness to accommodate evening and weekend work to meet member needs, as required.

APERÇU DU POSTE

Dans le service Soins médicaux sécuritaires - Analyse et mobilisation des connaissances, la ou le médecin-conseil, Transfert de connaissances contribue à offrir un enseignement de pointe aux médecins et aux autres membres d'équipes médicales partout au Canada, et favorise ainsi la prestation de soins médicaux sécuritaires. Cette personne doit notamment élaborer et évaluer les programmes d'éducation de l'ACPM, présenter des séances éducatives en mode virtuel et en personne partout au Canada ainsi qu'élaborer des produits d'apprentissage asynchrones, comme des balados, des activités d'apprentissage en ligne et des séances enregistrées. Le poste s'accompagne aussi d'occasions de rédiger des publications, y compris des articles pour le cyberBulletin de l'ACPM et des écrits destinés à des revues médicales à comité de lecture.

La ou le médecin-conseil contribue à l'efficacité des activités et des communications au sein des équipes, du service et entre les services, et fait la promotion d'une culture professionnelle, éthique et axée sur les membres ainsi que d'un milieu de travail positif à l'ACPM.

ACTIVITÉS LIÉES AU POSTE

Offrir des programmes éducatifs liés aux soins médicaux sécuritaires et aux affaires médico-légales à des groupes de membres de l'Association et, le cas échéant, à des membres d'autres professions de la santé, partout au Canada
