Job Summary

Provides direct restorative treatment of patients, carries out administrative duties associated with patient care, and contributes to department operations appropriate to the specific site.

Essential Functions
  • Responsible for direct patient care as appropriate and as defined by position level:
  • Performs standardized evaluations of patients using standard techniques.
  • Develops appropriate long and short term goals.
  • Develops basic treatment plans based on evaluation results that leads to achievement of goals.
  • Provides age appropriate treatment based on evaluation results that leads to achievement of goals.
  • Evaluates and recommends patient need for specialized equipment, distributes information to patient on purchase or arranges for order and distribution of apparatus, familiar with insurance requirements.
  • Completes documentation according to facility time frames and requirements.
  • Correctly identifies and bills for therapy services rendered.
  • Demonstrates awareness of safety precautions and ability to carry out emergency procedures
  • Attends and participates in in-service programs
  • Provides patient/family education and training and participates in family conferences.
  • Communicates with patients clearly and adjusts approach based on their needs/abilities.
  • Provides 100% direct patient care.
  • Contributes to efficient hospital/facility, department and team functioning:
  • Active participant in hospital/facility, department and team problem solving and projects.
  • Volunteers assistance where needed.
  • Contributes to area operations as appropriate.
  • Supervises PTAs, aides and volunteers as indicated.
  • Notifies the Supervisor/Manager of need for equipment, materials or supplies, or follows department procedure.
  • Participates in department maintenance.
  • Maintains an awareness of department issues, projects a cooperative attitude and promotes problem solving.
  • Complies with department and facility mission, values and policies.
  • Participates in in-service training for staff.
  • Participates in student training program as needed.
  • Takes an active role in staff/supervisor feedback process:
  • Reviews evaluation results, treatment plan and goals with designated staff member.
  • Communicates needs to supervisor.
  • Notifies supervisor of unusual patient findings in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrates an awareness of limitations and seeks supervision appropriately.
  • Modifies performance in response to supervisor's feedback.
  • Demonstrates the ability to translate knowledge of physical, psychosocial and cognitive-perceptual changes related to age into assessments, treatment plans and treatment modalities for pediatric, adolescent, young adult, adult and geriatric patients.
  • Maintains annual requirements for position:
  • Completes assigned department orientation material.
  • Participates in new staff orientation/competency assessment.
  • Maintains professional license.
  • Completes mandatory annual learning (Learning Harbor) within deadline.

  • Practices Standard Precautions. Follows regulations, policies and guidelines on the prevention of infections; does not eat or drink in patient care areas.
  • Maintains confidentiality of information; abides by HIPAA regulations.
  • Maintains a professional image and follows Hospital's policy on uniforms; consistently wears hospital ID.
  • Demonstrates reliable, on-time attendance, which is an essential function of all jobs at Burke.
