Full Job Description
Under the direction of the Director of the Rehabilitation Services Department, the physical therapist is responsible for providing, arranging for, teaching and supervising physical therapy services through the process of assessment, planning and implementation. He/she provides advisory service to other professionals who share responsibility for patient care and participates in the development of the rehabilitation program.

Responsibilities:
  • The Physical Therapist provides evaluation and treatment according to approved practices, policies, and procedures of the Physical Therapy Department of Ellis Hospital and New York State law. Demonstrates skills and abilities to assess and treat toddlers, school-age children, adolescents, adult and geriatric patients when employed in the inpatient and outpatient service area; adult and geriatric in the Ellis Center (SNF) service area.
  • Teaches appropriate treatment procedures and supportive activities to patients and caregivers.
  • Provides information about payment sources and helps interpret the extent and limitations of service available and promotes patient/family acceptance of an appropriate level of care.
  • For Physical Therapists assigned to the Outpatient Service Area: The Physical Therapist performs Iontophoresis and/or Phonophoresis with administration of medication as prescribed by a duly licensed medical practitioner.
  • Enters patient care/progress notes in the patient chart according to policies and procedures of the Rehabilitation Services Department, organizational policy and to standards of practice.
  • Contacts and notifies appropriate members of the health care team regarding the patient's progress or significant changes in the patient's status.
  • Interacts with family members as well as the patient in providing appropriate education and/or information consistent with diagnosis and standards of practice.
  • Uses appropriate communication techniques based on the patient's age and condition.
  • Participates on patient care committees and provides consultation and/or in-services as requested.
  • Appropriately documents correct patient charges for services administered, as observed by the Director of Rehabilitation Services Department.
  • Provides in-service education programs as required and requested, i.e., participate in staff in-service programs to maintain current knowledge pertinent to the profession.

Requirements:

A physical therapist must have a minimum of four (4) years of education beyond high school, attain a Bachelor of Science degree, Master of Science, Doctor of or Certificate of Physical Therapy from a college with a program approved by the American Physical Therapy Association. He/she must be licensed to practice physical therapy in/by the State of New York.

Salary Range: $ 36.07-$54.10 /hour Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the state.
