About the Role

LNG Canada is seeking a construction lawyer to support the Phase 2 Projects scope for Plant and Company Provided Items during construction. This individual will provide professional, timely, cost effective and practical legal advice primarily to LNG Canada's Projects and Contracting & Procurement (C&P) groups, and mainly in relation to the negotiation, implementation and management of various engineering, procurement and construction contracts (Project Contracts), as well as dispute resolution strategy to support the Phase 2 Project delivery.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Provide legal advice in respect of the development and negotiation of Project Contracts, day-to-day contract management issues and claims avoidance and management.
  • Support senior legal counsel on matters where appropriate.
  • Provide and/or support relevant training and education for the Projects and C&P groups as required.
  • Occasionally instruct outside counsel with managerial support.
  • Play a key role to ensure alignment with the Project's policies and standards.
  • Deal with multiple client groups simultaneously and prioritize conflicting matters appropriately.
  • Support continuous improvements with a focus on shared learnings and best practices and mitigations arising from legal and contractual risk lessons learned from the Phase 2 Project or broader projects experience.
  • Work effectively within the LNG Canada Legal team.


To be successful, you will have:

  • Between 7- 10 years at the bar with Canadian or common law experience with negotiating, advising and supporting the implementation and management of energy/oil & gas project related contracts.
  • Strong legal, business, negotiation, facilitation, and drafting skills.
  • Proven ability to address legal and commercial issues with practical solutions and sound risk mitigation strategies.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills across diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Good grasp of legal as well as business issues, industry developments and legal, social and political trends that may have an impact on the Project.
  • Ability to function effectively within high-performing teams and maintain relationships within the organization.
  • ability to contribute to the LNG Canada legal team and ensure that legal and compliance issues are taken into consideration and complied with.
  • Fluent in English both spoken and written.


This role requires that you:

  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada (i.e., by way of Canadian citizenship, permanent residency, or valid work permit)
  • Live in or are willing to relocate to Calgary.
